Job Description

The Lead Community Health Facilitator for SPIR II will collaborate closely with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, Health and Nutrition officers, and the MHPSS officer. They offer supportive guidance and mentorship to CHFs to execute successful nutrition BCC, nutrition counseling, and group food demonstration sessions. The Lead Health Community Facilitator will establish and sustain strong relationships with government workers, communities, and community organizations, focusing on PSNP institutions and participants in their respective working areas. This ensures that all health and nutrition activities are carried out in a coordinated and harmonious manner across all kebeles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  Provide Technical support for

( frontline workers (SPIR-II P1staff) to deliver effective Health and Nutrition)

  • Facilitate cascading, capacity-building, and training activities for CHF and HEWs.

  • Support CHFs to conduct training /monthly meetings with community volunteers/HDALs, and follow-up with any refresher training to ensure that knowledge is retained and skills are still demonstrated to the required proficiency

  • Conduct periodic capacity gap assessments of CHF, HEWs, and health posts and provide focused technical support on the identified gaps and technical assistance capacity building needs.

  • Support intentional integration NCG model to complementary Health and Nutrition intervention and SPIR-II technical programs     

  • Provide technical support on C_HMIS and CBHI according to the identified Gaps

  • Support H&N-related surveys and assessments such as Mini -KAP NCG to identify Knowledge, & skill gaps  

  • Actively participate in Woreda/Kebele Nutrition forums or technical working group /nutrition clusters with other RFSA or government partners,

  • Work closely with your supervisor and ensure consistency and uniformity of H&N interventions such as NCG intervention across all intervention kebeles

Monitoring progress and quality assurance project implementation

  • Prepare monthly work and supportive supervision plans and submit them to the Woreda Project coordinator.   

  • Conduct supportive supervision for CHF using a supervision checklist and QIVC based on the work plan and provide timely and constructive feedback for optimal outcome. And also use the information to improve quality and assist in decision-making for the WFSTF.

  • Conduct regular onsite visits and support field staff, ensure consistency of health and nutrition interventions across all intervention Kebele, and provide feedback to CHFs.

  • Ensure the quality of the SBCC implementation and provide targeted technical support on identified areas of improvement or capacity gaps.

  • Ensure monthly Sample home visits across the kebeles to ensure the quality of Home visits by CHF and community volunteer

  • Record and document accurate information about registered caregivers, meeting attendance, and significant events like pregnancies, births, or deaths to maintain complete and high-quality records.

Strengthen partnership, collaboration, and working relationships.

  • Actively participate and represent SPIR at Kebele forums, such as the Kebele FSTF review meetings, to share Health and Nutrition related learning and challenges in collaboration with Woreda HN Officer.

  • Support and collaborate with the ongoing learning and program adaptation of health and nutrition intervention, especially NCG activity 

  • Collaborate with the Health & nutrition Officer in conducting Woreda Level Multi Sectoral Integration Forum.

Job Requirements

Knowledge management, learning, and  report preparation

  • Provide information and support the documentation of case stories, lessons learned, and best practices by identifying cases and carefully documenting the process.

  • Support in providing accurate Health and Nutrition intervention data to support quarterly and annual reports.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional Experience

  • A minimum of five years of prior experience in Health and Nutrition programs, with a focus on rural development. Out of those five years, at least three years should have been dedicated to a supervisory or equivalent position is required.

  • Demonstrated technical leader in Ethiopia’s health and nutrition field with an established reputation for contributions in relevant forums, networks, and among USAID and its partners.

  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and coordination skills.

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • BSC in Public Health/Nutrition/Nursing/Health Officer with five and more years of experience in a rural setting.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of community-based health interventions, including Health and Nutrition, dialogue-based counseling techniques, Nurturing Care groups, and community participatory nutrition promotion to address nutrition during the first 1000 days is strongly preferred.

  •  Excellent report-writing skills

  • Ability to communicate and write clearly in English and the local language of the operation area (Afan Oromo) is mandatory

  • Motorbike Driving license

Travel and Work Environment Requirement

  • Work at Woreda level with frequent travel to Kebele/Community  

Language Requirements

  •  Fluent  in English and  Local Language (Afan Oromo)
