The Head – Pharmacy Services is responsible for overseeing all aspects of pharmacy operations, ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care. This role involves maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing medication management systems, and leading the pharmacy team to deliver high-quality patient care. Reporting to the CEO, the Head – Pharmacy Services collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to align pharmacy operations with the hospital’s strategic goals and patient safety standards.
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Develop and execute pharmacy strategies aligned with the hospital’s mission and patient care objectives.
Ensure pharmacy operations comply with local and national regulatory standards (e.g., Drug Control Act, NABH, and Pharmacy Council regulations).
Provide strategic insights on pharmacy service expansion, cost optimization, and quality improvement.
Collaborate with senior leadership to support clinical programs and ensure pharmaceutical services meet patient needs.
2. Pharmacy Operations Management
Oversee the daily operations of hospital pharmacy services, including inpatient, outpatient, and clinical pharmacy.
Implement best practices for medication procurement, inventory management, and supply chain efficiency.
Ensure the proper storage, dispensing, and tracking of pharmaceuticals to maintain patient safety and compliance.
Manage pharmacy staffing, ensuring adequate coverage and efficient workflows.
3. Quality Assurance & Patient Safety
Establish and maintain quality control processes to ensure accurate dispensing and reduce medication errors.
Implement and monitor adherence to hospital-wide medication safety programs.
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with quality assurance protocols and regulatory standards.
Ensure patient education on medication use and foster collaboration with healthcare professionals for optimal outcomes.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including NABH, Pharmacy Council, and local drug authorities.
Maintain accurate documentation for audits, inspections, and quality assessments.
Develop and implement policies for medication handling, adverse drug reactions (ADR) monitoring, and controlled substances.
Prepare and oversee the submission of compliance reports to regulatory bodies.
5. Financial & Inventory Management
Manage pharmacy budgets, monitor expenses, and optimize cost-efficiency without compromising patient care.
Oversee procurement processes and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective purchasing of pharmaceuticals.
Implement robust inventory control measures to minimize waste, prevent stock-outs, and manage expiries.
Ensure the use of data analytics to track trends, assess inventory levels, and forecast medication demand.
6. Technology Integration & Innovation
Implement and optimize pharmacy information systems (e.g., Electronic Medical Records and Automated Dispensing Systems).
Use data analytics to monitor medication usage patterns and identify areas for process improvement.
Oversee the adoption of innovative technologies for enhanced medication safety and patient care delivery.
7. Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing pharmacy team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
Oversee training programs for pharmacists and support staff to maintain competency and regulatory compliance.
Implement a structured performance evaluation system to track and improve employee performance.
Promote interdisciplinary collaboration between pharmacy, medical, and nursing teams to ensure seamless patient care.
8. Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration
Act as the primary liaison between the pharmacy, clinical departments, and external regulatory agencies.
Provide regular updates to the CEO and senior leadership on pharmacy performance and strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to enhance patient-centered care and optimize medication use.

Lead pharmacy-related emergency preparedness and ensure continuity of service during crises.
Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Board of Directors.
Qualification : Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
Preferred : Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) or Healthcare Management. Certification in Hospital Pharmacy Management or Regulatory Compliance is desirable.
Experience : 10+ years of experience in hospital pharmacy operations. Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing pharmacy services in a healthcare setting.
