Job Description
Under the general direction and guidance of the Secretary General the Deputy Secretary General (DSG) for Youth Development, Volunteerism and Membership is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to enhance the Ethiopian Red Cross Society’s engagement with youth developement, volunteers, and members. This role includes the development, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives that strengthen the organization’s capacity to deliver impactful humanitarian services while fostering community involvement and empowering young leaders.
Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for volunteerism, membership, and youth development that align with ERCS’s vision and mission.
Ensure the integration of these strategies into organizational plans and initiatives across departments, Provide high-level advice to the Secretary General on key issues related to volunteers, members, and youth engagement.
Lead the recruitment and retention of volunteers by designing programs that foster meaningful involvement in ERCS activities, Oversee the creation of training and capacity-building modules to empower volunteers with necessary skills and knowledge.
Establish recognition programs to celebrate and motivate volunteers’ contributions.
Increase the ERCS membership base through targeted outreach campaigns and partnerships with stakeholders, Manage membership engagement strategies that encourage active participation in humanitarian services.
Design and oversee the development of member benefit programs, including exclusive services and opportunities, Develop and implement programs aimed at empowering young people to take leadership roles and actively engage in ERCS activities.
Establish partnerships with schools, universities, and youth organizations to foster community awareness of humanitarian principles,Promote youth-driven innovation and creativity in addressing humanitarian challenges.
Represent the Ethiopian Red Cross Society at forums and events related to volunteerism, membership, and youth empowerment, both nationally and internationally.
Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders to enhance program visibility and impact.
Advocate for policies that prioritize volunteerism and youth engagement in development frameworks,Develop systems to track and measure the effectiveness of volunteerism, membership, and youth development programs,Use data to provide actionable insights and continuously improve strategies and initiatives.
Lead efforts to secure funding and resources for volunteerism, membership, and youth development programs,Prepare comprehensive reports on program progress for the Secretary General and stakeholders.
Identify and cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and local organizations to ensure sustainability, Manage program budgets effectively and prioritize resource allocation based on organizational needs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
PHD or Master’s degree in Social Science, International Development, Public Administration, Regional and Local development, Development studies, Business Administration, Leadership, Marketing, Organizational development, Political Science and International relation.
12/14 years of relevant work experience for PHD & Masters Degree respectively out of which the candidates must have 7 years of Senior Management Experience for PHD and 9 years of Senior Managerial Experience for Master’s Degree. The senior management experience is mandatory to qualify for the next step. Please, don’t apply if you don’t have the required senior management experience.
