Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and principled Amharic News Editor to lead and oversee the newsroom's daily editorial workflow. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist who upholds the highest standards of ethical reporting and editorial integrity. This individual will manage content planning, assignment coordination, story development, and final approvals—ensuring all published work aligns with Ethiopia Insider’s editorial philosophy and meets the expectations of its diverse audience.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead daily editorial meetings to plan the day’s content and track story deadlines.

• Develop weekly and monthly content calendars for in-depth or special coverage.

• Guide story selection, assigning reporters to stories and directing how each should be structured and presented.

• Ensure stories are contextually rich, accurate, and aligned with journalistic standards.

• Collaborate closely with reporters to brainstorm original story angles and strengthen content depth.

• Oversee newsroom operations, ensuring adherence to deadlines and consistent content quality.

• Verify all factual content before publication.

• Approve final copy prior to publishing on the website or other digital platforms.

• Uphold and enforce editorial policies, maintaining objectivity and credibility in all published material.

Job Requirements

Required Qualification & Skills:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

• Proven experience (3+ years) in journalism, editorial roles, or digital media.

• Strong editorial judgment and familiarity with ethical journalism practices.

• Excellent writing and editing skills in Amharic; working knowledge of English is an advantage.

• Proficiency in digital publishing tools and familiarity with online newsroom workflows.

• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with experience guiding editorial teams.
