Job Description
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.
The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD) Research Division is one of the departments in the institute and currently MNTD’s Malaria Research Unit runs different research projects on malaria in collaborations with national and international partners and funders. Therefore, the MNTD Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic Junior Researcher_ Statistician to join our diverse team.
Collect, clean, and organize data from various sources.
Conduct statistical analyses using appropriate methodologies to support malaria research projects.
Develop and maintain databases to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
Assist in the design and implementation of data collection instruments and protocols.
Apply statistical models to analyze research data and interpret results.
Collaborate with senior statisticians and researchers to refine and improve statistical models.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations of statistical analyses and findings.
Document all statistical methods and procedures used in analyses.
Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams, including epidemiologists, biologists, and public health experts.
Provide statistical support and consultation to research team members.
Stay updated with the latest statistical techniques and software.
Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
Share knowledge and train other team members in statistical methods and data management practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or related field of study.
Work experience is not required but experience (1-2 years) in a research setting, preferably in biomedical or public health research is advantageous.
Proficiency in statistical software R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata.
Knowledge of database management systems and data visualization tools.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate statistical concepts to non-statistical team members.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data analysis and reporting.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Flexibility and willingness to contribute to various aspects of the research project.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Duty station: Addis Ababa
Salary: ETB 10,386.00 (Ten Thousand Three Hundred Eighty Six Birr)
Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
