Caritas Switzerland (CACH) has been working in Ethiopia for more than 50 years. CACH has successfully been registered as an International Non-Government Organization in Ethiopia and has therefore become operational at project implementation level. CACH’s main working fields are Climate, Income, Migration as well as Humanitarian Aid Responses. CACH current working areas are in Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray. CACH supports and implements different projects in these regions.

CACH is seeking an experienced, and energetic, Driver to support the project activities.

Job summary: 

The Driver is responsible for safe transporting of CACH staff and goods and assuming technical responsible for CACH country office vehicles and that they are in a safe working condition and operational. She/he also delivers official documents to different places of government offices and partners. The driver will be traveling frequently to the project areas. 

Main Areas of Responsibility

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Transport of CACH staff within project areas to various places;

• Supporting the Office administrator in procurement and settling bills and delivering documents to various offices;

• Regularly checking the vehicle for mechanical issues and reporting any problems, as well as performing routine maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations.

• Maintain vehicle logbooks and maintenance record sheets;

• Contribute to maintaining vehicle usage plans;

• Follow annual inspection and Insurance of the vehicle on time;

• Drive CACH staff from Sub office to projects in sometimes remote locations sometimes over several days;

• Bringing and picking up CACH staff to and from the airport, sometimes beyond normal working times;

Vehicle Maintenance and Record Keeping: 

• Conduct necessary daily, weekly and monthly maintenance check of vehicles

• Monitor regular maintenance service requirements of vehicles and ensure that the necessary services are undertaken in a timely manner.

• Inform the supervisor, up on discovery, any repair and maintenance requirements of vehicles for immediate attention.

• The vehicle is refilled regularly and has sufficient level of fuel (at least a quarter of a tank full) at all times when in office and field.

• Ensure the exterior and interior cleanliness of vehicles at all times.

• Ensure that all movements and other information (such as fuel, repair, lubricants, etc.) are logged in the vehicle logbook fully and in a timely manner.

Security and Safety:

• To drive CACH vehicle in a safe and responsible manner ensuring consistent compliance with CACH transport policy as well as the Ethiopian government road traffic regulations. 

• Responsible for ensuring that a fire extinguisher and First Aid kit with all contents are in the vehicle at all times and that any used content is replaced immediately.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate represents the majority of the below mentioned areas:

• At least eight grades completed.

• Minimum 3rd grade driving licence 

• A minimum of five years’ prior experience in the same function is required.

• Speaking Tigrigna is mandatory, while communication in English is advantageous 

• Having a certificate or training in auto mechanics is advantageous. 

• Experience driving in the field is advantageous

• Hardworking and consistent performing duties at work

• Critical thinker, mature, respectful, honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.

• Has the necessary technical skills for the job.
