Job Description

The Senior Electrical Automation Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems across companies under Mining Cluster. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical infrastructure, process control systems, and industrial automation technologies. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production, reduce downtime, and integrate smart solutions.

Key Responsibilities

 Electrical & Automation System Design & Implementation

  • Lead the design, specification, and commissioning of electrical power distribution systems (HV/LV), motor control centers (MCCs), and process automation systems for the operations of companies under mining cluster.

  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, control schematics, PLC programs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider), and SCADA/HMI configurations.

  • Oversee the integration of industrial IoT (IIoT), sensors, and predictive maintenance technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical leadership in diagnosing and resolving electrical, instrumentation, and automation failures to minimize production disruptions.

  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, VFDs) and control systems.

  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for critical equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.

Process Optimization & Innovation

  • Collaborate with process engineers to automate and optimize processing plants, crushing cir

  • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements (e.g., power factor correction, renewable energy integration).

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies (machine learning, digital twins) in automation and propose adoption strategies.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all electrical and automation systems comply with national/international standards and MIDROC’s safety protocols.

  • Conduct hazard assessments and implement mitigation measures.

  • Lead training programs for technicians and operators on new systems and safety procedures.

Project Management & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Manage projects for electrical and automation upgrades, including budgeting, vendor selection, and contractor supervision.

  • Liaise with equipment suppliers, EPC contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project deliverables.

  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and progress updates for senior management.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Mechatronics.

  • Experience: 8+ years in electrical and automation engineering, preferably in mining, heavy industry, or mineral processing.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in PLC/DCS programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley, Ignition SCADA).

  • Proficiency in ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar design tools.

  • Knowledge of field instrumentation (flow meters, pressure transmitters, level sensors) and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP).

  • Certifications: Professional engineering license (preferred), OSHA/NEBOSH safety training (a plus).

  • Language: Fluency in English and Amharic (additional languages are a plus).
