The Ink Technician is responsible for preparing, mixing, and maintaining inks for gravure and flexographic printing processes to ensure high-quality print production. This role requires precise color matching, viscosity control, and troubleshooting ink-related issues to optimize print performance and reduce waste.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mix and match inks according to job specifications and customer requirements.

  • Adjust ink formulations to achieve accurate colors and viscosity for gravure and flexo printing.

  • Maintain proper ink inventory and record all formulations, ratios, challenges and actions taken for repeatability.

  • Conduct ink drawdowns and tests to ensure consistency, caustic test, and color accuracy.

  • Use spectrophotometers and other color-matching tools to verify ink shades.

  • Work closely with the quality control team to ensure print standards are met.

  • Identify and resolve ink-related issues such as drying speed, adhesion, and viscosity problems.

  • Collaborate with press operators to optimize ink performance and minimize downtime.

  • Adjust pH levels, solvent balance, and additives to enhance print quality.

  • Store, handle, and dispose of inks, solvents, and chemicals according to safety regulations.

  • Maintain a clean and organized ink mixing area.

  • Follow company and industry safety guidelines, including PPE usage and hazardous material handling.

  • Work with suppliers to test and evaluate new ink products.

  • Support production teams with technical knowledge on ink applications.

  • Document ink usage, adjustments, and waste for reporting and process improvements.

Job Requirements

Education

  • BA Degree in Industrial Chemistry and/or related field is required.

  1. Experience

  • 5 to 3 years in a printing or packaging company using gravure or Flexo printing.

  • Background in chemistry, printing technology, or a related field is a plus.
