Job Description

Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations (UEWCA) is a non-governmental, apolitical, non-religious consortium of 88 local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) focusing on the empowerment and gender equality of women, girls, and children. Established in 2010, UEWCA has been instrumental in coordinating efforts to ensure gender equality and empowerment across Ethiopia. UEWCA legally registered with the FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) with registration number 1482 and have a physical presence in Addis Ababa.

The Organization is seeking dedicated and experienced employee for the following position to join our team for a humanitarian project entitled “providing urgent response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors to be implemented in selected Woredas of the Amhara Regional State with the support of Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund. The successful candidate will play a vital role in implementing and overseeing GBV prevention and response activities, financial management and timely reporting ensuring that survivors receive timely and comprehensive support.

 Job Position: GBV Protection Officer

Duty Station:   Addis Ababa, UEWCA Head Office

Salary:  As per the Organization Scale

Duration:  One year with possibility of extension based on availability of funds and performance 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of GBV prevention and response project activities.

  • Coordinate and guide case management and psychosocial support to GBV survivors, ensuring confidentiality and respect.

  • Provide technical support to field team to conduct regular community outreach and awareness sessions on GBV prevention and response.

  • Provide technical support to field team to collaborate with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to enhance GBV protection mechanisms.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project activities, achievements, and challenges along with corrective measures.

  • Facilitate capacity-building activities for project team, local CSOs and community groups.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of GBV interventions and suggest improvements.

  • Liaison UEWCA with respective implementing partner, local government and other relevant stakeholders 

  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to raise awareness and influence policy changes related to GBV prevention and response.

  • Oversee communication efforts, including the creation of informational materials and engagement with media, to promote project goals and highlight successes.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, legal, or a related field of study.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gender, GBV prevention and response, preferably in a humanitarian setting.

  • Strong knowledge of GBV, legal support, case management and psychosocial support principles.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in English and Amharic languages.

  • Ability to travel to project sites within the Amhara Regional State.

  • Report writing and knowledge of management skill.
