Good Neighbors’ mission in  Ethiopia, as part of its global mission, is to transform communities by ensuring effective community  development, focusing on livelihoods, peace building, and addressing the needs of displaced people, with a vision of a world without hunger and where people live in harmony, Good Neighbor Ethiopia is working to improve the  lives of the community through initiatives of child protection, Health, Basic education, Health, income generating activities ( IGA), humanitarian emergency and climate changes sectors and operating in eight regions in Ethiopia.

Good Neighbor Ethiopia is seeking a qualified individual with significant level of experience and expertise in community development for young people and the delivery of youth services with a focus on social impact, including consultation, participation, ownership, evaluation, measurement, and reporting in project intervention area.

  Purpose

  • This role’s main purpose is the positive development of young people in the central Ethiopia regional state kebena Community. The Youth Development Officer is responsible for driving strategic youth engagement, Community development and social impact objectives. This requires leading the youth Services to undertake meaning full consultation with young people and stakeholders, and to plan, develop, manages, and evaluate youth services, programs, and facilities to ensure they are high quality, well promoted and meet the needs of young people in kebena special district and walkite town.

  • Integrated youth development officer organizes local young people and increases the volume and diversity of participation across the service as well as consolidating initiatives including youth volunteerism.

  • Enabling and supporting youths on effective use of technologies for educational purposes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the  youths services ensuring that they are  pro-active in meeting the needs of young people, are well promoted, effective and efficient 

  • Develop and implement strategies that facilitate healthy youth development outcomes for young people, including marginalized and ensure the service can respond to emerging needs.

  • Encourage and foster the organized involvement of young people in the planning, promotion, provision and evaluation of programs and activities for young people both in the community and at the youth Centre.

  • Working with external partners, in the provision of high- profile initiatives for young  people.

  • Regularly monitor, evaluate, and report on programs delivered in youth center. 

  • Apply findings to maintain and enhance existing services, programs, policies and procedures.

  • Develop partnerships with health office, Health centers, Educating office, women and children office, youth and sport office and schools as well as other external stake holders to meet emerging needs, increase awareness of services   available to young people and enhance impact.

  • Manage and supervise the operation of the Youth  Centre, ensuring that it is well maintained and presented, accessible safe and  appropriately meets that needs of young people,

  • Maximize access and outcomes for young people through managing relationships with community stakeholders, expanding promotion and delivering a range of center – based activities that proactively target diverse groups of young people.

  • Participate and contribute to the development of strategy of strategy and advocacy work with schools, community groups   and organization as well as all levels of Government to address youth issues and achieve collective impact at a local level.

  • Supporting parent group, SACCO group, care givers, counselors and other groups that are working with young people.

  • Create referral linkages between youth center and health centers for friendly youth health and child protection services.

  • Organize youth club at youth center level and encourage them to participate on dialogue periodically. Ensure a comprehensive,  up –to- date range  of information relevant  to the needs and interests of young people, is 

  • Monitor and  measure  the extent to which young  people form the community are aware of information and services available to them 

  • Increase capacity to deliver services by evaluating and improving operational efficiency, optimizing resources available.

  • Preparing library and ICT center working schedules for students and out of school users.

  • Avail in and out door games at each corner of the youth center.

  • Establish coffee shop corner and install DstV services and link with youth group to generate income from each category.

  • Working with technic schools and invite experts to train out of school youths on entrepreneurship and vocational skills.

  • Working with Medias to prepare and facilitate community dialogues among selected beneficiary families, elders and religious council groups on different tops periodically.

  • Assist students in accessing educational materials form available platforms (websites, telegram and etc. channels).
