Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 13 million patients and today deploys its operations in 14 countries. In 2023, ALIMA cared for 2.8 million patients, including over a million children under the age of 5, received 157,393 people for mental health consultations, assisted 67,617 births, carried out 64 projects in 14 countries. Whenever possible We work in partnership with local NGOs to ensure that our patients benefit from the best and most relevant expertise wherever it is, whether within their own country or in the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.
ALIMA’S TEAM: more than 2000 people are currently working for ALIMA. The field teams, closest to the patients, receive their support from coordination teams generally based in the countries’ capitals. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working to raise funds and represent ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams working on behalf of other organizations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERT Health, SOS Doctors / KEOGO, AMCP, research organizations PACCI, and INSERM, Bordeaux or Copenhagen Universities, the INGO Solidarités International, and many others.
COUNTRIES WHERE WE WORK: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, Sudan, Mauritania, Haiti.
THE WORK WE DO covers: Malnutrition, Maternal Health, Primary Health, Pediatrics, Malaria, Epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Lassa Fever), Hospitalization, Emergencies, Gender-Based Violence, Opening / Closing.
ALIMA IN ETHIOPIA
ALIMA has been operating in Ethiopia since 2022, providing healthcare, nutrition, and emergency response in regions affected by conflict, instability, and climate-related crises.
The organization initially focused on the Afder zone in the Somali Region, where limited healthcare infrastructure and recurring droughts have led to severe malnutrition and a shortage of medical personnel. ALIMA delivered integrated health and nutrition services to support vulnerable communities in Hargele, Elkare and Barey woredas. This ECHO funded project was closed at the end of the funding cycle in October 2024.
In 2024, ALIMA expanded its work to the Tigray region, which had been heavily impacted by instability and conflict. The organization is implementing a CDCS funded program addressing healthcare, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in targeted woredas. A base has been established in Mekele, and activities are being rolled out to improve access to essential services for affected populations.
To ensure continuity and scale up its impact, ALIMA has also proposed to ECHO an extension of its programs in both Afder and Tigray, aiming to strengthen healthcare systems, enhance nutrition support, and improve overall community resilience.
The main activities to come will consist of:
In the short-term: prepare and launch in collaboration with the Ministry of Health a project contributing to the reduction of morbidity and mortality of communities affected by the drought.
In the mid-to-long term: ensure the follow-up of the first project, develop partnerships with key stakeholders (MoH, civil society, research institutes…), conduct new assessments in areas with acute humanitarian needs and launch new activities.
LOCATION OF POSITION: Somali region, Afder Zone, Woreda: Elkare.
FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINK
He/she reports to the Nurse Supervisor.
He/she collaborates and interacts with activities supervisors (OPD, IPD, …) and the logistic team, as well as with the entire ALIMA team and its partners.
PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Level 3: As part of his/her duties, the incumbent will visit programs and come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good character will be required. In situations where a criminal record check or character reference is not possible, a declaration of honor will be requested.
MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES
Organizing and ensuring medical consultations to the targeted population through the MHNT, providing treatment to patients within the scope of his/her medical competencies and referring them when appropriate, according to MHNT Guidelines, and ALIMA protocols, procedures and the universal hygiene standards in order to guarantee quality and efficiency of the service provided.
Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MHNT activities package as per National guidelines, and ALIMA clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records
Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients and following protocols (CMAM, IMCI, MNCH, EPI,…) in force as well as using laboratory rapid tests, when necessary, in order to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate.
Implementing all preventive activities (EPI,..) , Essentials Nutrition Activities, Growth monitoring for children under five years old in the targeted populations
In charge of MHNT related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material, etc.)
In close collaboration with logistic teams, organising all logistic needs of the MHNT
In close collaboration with the Nurse supervisor and the project coordination team, identifying population in need and setting the schedule for MHNT activities
In collaboration with community activity supervisor and the project coordination team, involving HP/HC responsible and community leaders in the MHNT activity and ensuring targeted population is aware of the MHNT schedule
Collaborate with HP and HC responsible and personnel while organizing MHNTs activities in their areas
Ensuring good usage of medical devices, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
In cases of emergency, carrying out first aid care and treatment according to protocols prior referral in order to reduce mortality rates
Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
After being trained on MHPSS:
Provide consultation and appropriate case management for beneficiaries with psychosocial problems and mental illness.
Organize awareness raising and sensitization event, workshop, campaign on mental health topics for communities targeting various age groups
Organize and conduct PFA training for volunteers, community leaders and representatives
Supervising and training volunteers, HEW, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures
Recording in the individual patient’s card and registration books, all performed medical activities (drugs prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, doses, etc.) keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity.
Ensuring data collection and reporting of all MHNT activities.
Implementation of preventive measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violence:
Participate in training and awareness sessions
Applies standards relating to the prevention of abuse
Ensures that the members of his team follow training and awareness sessions and apply the standards relating to the prevention of abuse
Contributes to creating and maintaining a fulfilling and protective environment.
CONDITIONS
Contract term:
Contract term: 6 months (renewable, based on funding availability and performance)

Training / Education:
College Diploma/Degree in Nursing and with valid registration/practicing license
Experiences:
Working experience in clinical activity and MHNT of at least 4 years for Diploma and 2 years for degree holders.
Extensive Knowledge and experience in primary health care system, and Humanitarian/ emergency context.
Relevant experience on doing OPD Consultation, managing Emergency cases, facilitating the referrals, managing MAM and SAM cases
Relevant experience in performing clinical procedures (assisted delivery and others),
Skills:
Ability to prescribe medications for the patient in more efficient and effective way
Ability to performing rapid diagnostic procedures and others
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint
Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking ability
Collaborative attitude with colleagues, work team and external partners
Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different cultural backgrounds
