Job Title: Humanitarian  Aid Project Officer

Duty station:  Emba Alaje and Enda Mehoni districts of Tigray Region 

Type of employment:  Fixed term for 14 months 

Number of employees required: Two(2); one for Emba Alaje and one for  Enda Mehoni

Salary:  As per the approved project budget

German Leprosy and TB Relief Association Ethiopia (GLRA Ethiopia) is a non-profit international NGO working in the field of  Leprosy and other NTDs, Tuberculosis, Humanitarian aid, Socioeconomic rehabilitation and research; the marginalized and susceptible community members being a priority target.  Currently, GLRA Ethiopia is planning to implement a 14 months project entitled “Enhance Food Security and Strengthen the Resilience of Marginalized Communities in the Emba Alaje and Mehoni Districts of the Tigray Region, Ethiopia” from June 15, 2025 to August 14, 2026. The main aim of this project is to  support the recovery and  and resilience of the most vulnerable and marginalized community members, such as people affected by leprosy and disabilities, in Emba Alaje and Mehoni districts. A holistic approach integrating livelihood support, inclusive capacity building and disability sensitive  humanitarian interventions will be carried out to address  the immediate needs, and to create a ground for sustainable recovery. 

Job Purposes: 

The primary purpose of the position is to manage and coordinate the implementation of the mentioned project. The position will be based in Emba Alaje and Mehoni; therefore, applicants have to specify and indicate the district in which they are interested to work.  The project officers will report to GLRA Ethiopia CBID team leader in Addis Ababa and  respective sector in Tigray region and districts. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, coordinate and actively take part in the overall activities of the project.

  • Work in close collaboration with Emba Alaje and Enda Mehoni district administration, disaster prevention and preparedness regional level bureaus and other stakeholders.

  •  Sustainably work on networking and partnership with relevant stakeholders to implement the project effectively and efficiently.

  •  Identify and select beneficiaries.

  • Providing all supports, particularly food assistance, in line with local and international standards.

  • Organize, facilitate and provide entrepreneurship training for beneficiaries.

  • Conduct regular follow up on the status of beneficiaries. 

  • Organize and facilitate events/meetings and have discussions with relevant stakeholders.

  • Identify and facilitate the supply of all necessary logistics for the implementation of the project in collaboration with the respective districts and GLRA Ethiopia.

  • Coordinate and participate in baseline assessment (data collection) and end line evaluation.

  • Assess income generation sources that are feasible to the capacity of persons affected by leprosy. 

  • Facilitate and establish IGAs  for selected beneficiaries, and provide training for them. 

  • Provide  training  and advocacy for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities( OPDs) and support office renovation/construction for them.

  • Provide capacity-building support to the targeted district government offices through training and logistical assistance.

  • Work to ensure that the beneficiaries are free from harm actions.

  • Prioritizing staff and beneficiaries security in the project area and implementing all necessary measures to safeguard them from potential harm.

  • Implement and monitor project activities and report the status to GLRA Ethiopia.

  • Monitor/supervise the project implementation sites in collaboration with other stockholders.

  • Follow & ensure proper utilization of project resources & reports it to GLRA Ethiopia.

  • Recording and compiling project activity performances and reporting them to GLRA Ethiopia.

  • Gather, case stories, best practice, and report lessons learned, challenges & gaps encountered with the corrective measures taken & recommendations.

  • Perform any other tasks given by the employer.

Job Requirements

  • Social science background; BA in social work-related field with a minimum of 3 years experiences.

  • Master's degree in a social work-related field with zero(0) years of work experience.

  • Experience in conducting and coordinating fieldwork related to humanitarian assistance.

  • High competency in English   opening 

  •  NGO experience is desired

  • Experience in humanitarian aid

  • Experience in disability, and inclusive support desired

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledge of the local language (Tigrigna) and project site/districts (preferred)
