Job Description
With the financial support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Project HOPE has commenced implementing a research project “Pathways Ethiopia” in Nov 2023. The purpose of the project is to understand, reach, and serve vulnerable populations in Ethiopia through applying the “Pathways” method https://www.projectpathways.org/about. Specific objectives include identifying factors that make Ethiopian women, their children and adolescents vulnerable to poor Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (RMNCHN) services utilization and health outcome, conducting population segmentation based on the key sources of vulnerability, and intervening to effectively reach the vulnerable segments of the population. The project also envisions to build the modelling capacity within the Government of Ethiopia health system to nurture evidence-based PH decision making practice.
Project HOPE wants to employ a qualified and experienced Field Program Coordinator for the Pathways for Ethiopia project as per the specifications provided below.
Work closely with Logistics, Operations, and all members of the Pathways for Ethiopia team to effectively plan fieldwork, deploy resources, and coordinate staff,
Ensure timely processing of payments, allocation of vehicles, and provision of necessary equipment and materials before, during, and after surveys,
Manage and coordinate fieldwork for national surveys and qualitative studies,
Facilitate recruitment, training, deployment, and supervision of enumerators and supervisors for the national surveys and qualitative study,
Facilitate administrative and financial activities related to the project,
Supervise survey sites to monitor progress, ensure tasks align with plans, and provide timely feedback to data collectors and supervisors.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with Logistics, Operations, and the Pathways for Ethiopia project teams to coordinate field staff, vehicles, and equipment before, during, and after surveys.
Facilitate the recruitment, training, deployment, and supervision of data collectors and supervisors for fieldwork.
Ensure the timely availability of supplies and equipment required for field operations.
Monitor and maintain adequate resources, including fuel, supplies, and equipment, throughout the survey period.
Facilitate organization of survey teams, conducting training sessions, and assigning tasks to field staffs
Prepare and document contractual agreements for field staff in consultation with HR and the Pathways team.
Facilitate timely processing of per diems and travel expenses for data collectors and supervisors.
Oversee accurate data collection, ensuring compliance with established research protocols.
Liaise with federal and local government bodies, as well as community members, to facilitate smooth survey implementation.
Engage in supervision of data collectors and supervisors during field surveys and related activities.
Conduct regular survey site assessments to verify progress and provide timely feedback to field teams.
Ensure field team members operate safely and efficiently throughout the survey period.
Perform daily task checks, ensuring proper collection, storage, and maintenance of equipment and research tools.
Keep senior research associates informed of daily performance and any emerging issues in field operations.
Compile daily field reports detailing working hours and task completion rates for each field team member.
Prepare and present comprehensive fieldwork reports to project staff and key stakeholders.
Attend project meetings as required and
Perform other duties assigned by senior research associates
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Candidates for this position should hold an MPH, or other equivalent degree in public health from a recognized higher learning institution.
Hold more than 8 years’ experience in field work coordination.
Experience in survey administration and supervision.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with mobile data collection apps.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to travel to outside Addis Ababa including hard-to-reach and conflicted-affected areas.
