Job Description

BACKGROUND

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM), a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp., a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), is engaged in gold mining operations across multiple countries, including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM operates with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and holds three contiguous Exploration Licenses for its project in Ethiopia.

The project is strategically located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, within the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is actively involved in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.

  1. Purpose of the job: 

The Management of KGM is seeking to employ a dedicated, experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Mineral Resource Manager. This role is responsible for the strategic management of Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve to ensure optimal extraction and utilization. This role involves establishing a sustainable and achievable Mineral Resource management plan that will include an efficient short-term plan based on a Life of Mine (LOM) plan, overseeing geology, hydrogeology, mining engineering, and planning activities to maximize resource value, surveys, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in resource management practices. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Resource Management:

  • Develop and implement mineral resource management policies, processes, and procedures for implementation across all functions of the mine. 

  • Compile and review the mine works plan 

  • Oversee geological surveys, sampling, and data analysis to estimate and classify mineral resources and reserves. 

Planning and Execution:

  • Develop, implement and direct mine planning, scheduling, and ore characterization plans to optimize resource extraction. 

  • Direct short, medium & long term mine planning to support forecasting, budgeting, and life of mine plans

Budget Management:

  • Formulate and manage operating and capital budgets for MRM. 

Technical Leadership:

Lead and manage the following sections within the MRM team and all their key tasks: 

  1. Mining Engineering 

  2. Mining Geology including Grade control drilling, modelling & estimation, and ore block mining 

  3. Geotechnical including design parameters and close monitoring of performance of these parameters. 

  4. Hydrogeology including advanced dewatering and groundwater management to be able to achieve designs. 

  5. Mine Survey and with close interaction with other sections of the Mining Department being: 

i. Mining Operations team and Fleet Management System and Mine Dewatering 

ii. Safety  

  • Compliance:

            Ensure adherence to safety, health, legal, and regulatory compliance within the technical services discipline. 

  • Reporting and Analysis:

            Prepare and present monthly, annual, and life-of-mine reports, including ROM tonnage and grade reports. 

  • Continuous Improvement:

            Identify and implement best practices and innovations in mineral resource management. 

  • Due Diligence:

            Participate in due diligence reviews for potential mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • A BSc degree in a mining-related field e.g. Mining Engineering, Mine Geology, Mining Surveying etc.

  • Minimum 10 Years' experience in MRM/Technical Services section in the mining industry.

  • Minimum of 5 Years management experience in the mining industry.

  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of mine geology, survey, mine planning, and mine scheduling.

  • MRM principles, systems, technologies, and trends 

  • Experience in ERP systems and advanced computer skills

  • Written and spoken English, with Amharic being an added advantage

  • Able to work within tight timelines, maintaining accuracy and efficiency of assigned tasks
