Job Description

The Educational Technical Assistant is responsible for enhancing the educational growth of student beneficiaries and supporting the learning initiatives of guardians. This includes overseeing tutorial programs, curriculum development, and teacher training. The role also involves monitoring student academic progress, facilitating adult education programs, and working closely with other staff to ensure beneficiaries receive comprehensive educational support. The Educational Technical Assistant participates in the beneficiary intake process and helps facilitate the MHM program.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Beneficiary Selection and Monitoring

  • Participate in beneficiary selection and admission.

  • Go home-to-home to investigate families eligible for admission according to government referral and intake criteria.

  • Fully fill out intake and assessment forms.

  • Document family stories and backgrounds.

  • Assess and investigate the eligibility of the beneficiaries according to set criteria.

  • Interview and review beneficiary background information and properly document it in the beneficiary intake form.

  • Track student progress through assessments, surveys, and regular check-ins.

  • Work with the Social Worker to address any social or behavioral barriers affecting student learning.

  • Collaborate with the Social Worker and Livelihood Technical Assistant to address holistic needs of beneficiaries.

2. Academic Support & Tutorial Program Oversight:

  • Organize and oversee tutorial sessions, ensuring content aligns with school curriculum and student learning needs.

  • Monitor student progress and attendance, adjusting intervention strategies as needed.

  • Train and mentor tutorial teachers, providing resources and guidance on effective teaching methodologies.

  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students requiring additional support.

  • Plan and coordinate educational activities and events, such as workshops, study groups, and parent-teacher meetings, to engage parents and the community in supporting students’ education.

  • Conduct regular home visits and communicate with parents or guardians to discuss students’ educational needs and challenges.

  • Provide guidance and counseling to students to address any academic, social, or personal issues affecting their learning.

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of students’ educational needs and progress.

  • Implement tools and methods for assessing student learning, including tests, surveys, and observations.

  • Document success stories and case studies to share outcomes with stakeholders and donors.

  • Work closely with the Social Worker and other team members to ensure that extracurricular and tutorial activities respond to the holistic needs of children.

3. Training:

  • Design and adapt educational materials to improve engagement and learning outcomes.

  • Provide training sessions for tutorial teachers on teaching methodologies, classroom management, and student engagement.

  • Develop study skills and learning strategy workshops for students to enhance independent learning.

  • Organize and facilitate workshops for parents and caregivers on topics such as supporting children’s education at home, positive discipline, and the importance of education.

  • Develop and distribute educational materials and resources to support teaching and learning activities.4

4. Extracurricular Programs:

  • Organize and supervise extracurricular activities, including student clubs, sports, and creative programs, to promote holistic student development.

  • Identify and support opportunities for students to explore leadership, teamwork, and life skills through club involvement.

  • Train and mentor club leaders and volunteers to lead structured, safe, and impactful activities.

  • Foster an inclusive environment where students of all backgrounds can participate meaningfully

5. Community Engagement and Advocacy

  • Build strong relationships with local schools, educational authorities, and community organizations to advocate for the educational needs of vulnerable children.

  • Participate in community outreach activities to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage community support for the program.

  • Represent PATH Ministries International at educational forums, meetings, and events to share program updates and best practices.

6. Adolescent girls Program 

  • Integrating with Social workers and other teams:

  • Provide ongoing guidance and capacity-building for gender club members to help them actively advocate against GBV.

  • Organize regular meetings and activities to empower students and promote positive gender norms.

  • Organize and facilitate training sessions on recognizing and addressing GBV for teachers, staff, and students.

  • Plan and facilitate school-wide and community-based campaigns to raise awareness on GBV, child rights, and gender equality.

7. Speed School Program

  • Facilitate initial and refresher training sessions for Speed School facilitators/teachers to ensure strong pedagogical skills and adherence to the accelerated curriculum.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to facilitators, with a focus on learner-centered, inclusive, and participatory teaching methods.

  • Track student enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and psychosocial well-being through regular classroom visits and data reviews.

  • Coordinate the administration of student assessments and grade reporting to evaluate learning outcomes and address gaps.

  • Identify students needing additional support and work with facilitators to provide appropriate interventions.

  • Oversee the distribution of scholastic materials, and other supplies to ensure Speed School students have the tools they need to succeed.

  • Ensure learning environments are safe, child-friendly, and conducive to accelerated learning.

  • Facilitate and monitor the transition of Speed School graduates into government schools/linked school.

  • Organize and lead "Back-to-School" campaigns in collaboration with community leaders, schools, and local government to raise awareness and increase enrollment.

8. Adult Education Program:

  • Oversee the adult education program, ensuring alignment with community needs and literacy objectives.

  • Facilitate training sessions for adult learners on foundational education, financial literacy, and life skills.

  • Collaborate with the Livelihood Technical Assistant to integrate business and entrepreneurship education for guardians.

9. Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain academic records and program reports, tracking student progress and success stories.

  • Track student attendance, academic performance, and behavior, and maintain accurate records of their progress.

  • Monitor the use and maintenance of educational materials and resources provided by PATH Ministries International.

  • Analyze assessment data to make recommendations for program improvement.

  • Provide regular updates to the Program Manager on program impact and areas for growth.

10. General Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties to be assigned by the program coordinator or administrative management of the organization.

  • Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, training sessions, attendance records, and program activities.

  • Collaborate with other program staff to ensure integrated support for beneficiaries.

  • Coordinate with other program staff in relevant activities including food and materials distributions and information gathering.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development by participating in relevant training and workshops.

  • Uphold the values and policies of PATH Ministries International in all interactions with students, families, and community members.

Job Requirements

  • Duty Station:

    • West Hararghe Zone, Chiro Town

  • Contract Type: 

    • 6-month contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and program funding.

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in teaching, educational program management, or a similar role, preferably working with vulnerable children.

    • Strong skills in tracking, documenting, and reporting academic and program data.

    • Experience in organizing tutorial classes, remedial education, or extracurricular activities is highly desirable.

    • Experience with Speed School programs or alternative learning programs is highly preferred. This includes familiarity with accelerated learning techniques and approaches tailored to bridge learning gaps for out-of-school children to catch-up education.

  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of child development, learning principles, and educational assessment methods.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and community members.

    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

    • Ability to conduct assessments, analyze data, and prepare comprehensive reports.

    • Intermediate and above proficiency in the following computer skills:

      • Microsoft Word

      • Microsoft Excel

      • Microsoft PowerPoint

    • Ability to prepare field reports and write letters 

    • Fluency in Afaan Oromo and Amharic

    • Excellence in written English

  • Work Environment:

    • Based in field office with regular travel to schools, student homes, and community centers as required.

    • May require occasional evening or weekend work, depending on the needs of the beneficiaries and program activities.

  • Salary and Benefits

    • Gross Salary up to 40,000 ETB

      • Salary is fixed to current USD exchange rate
