Job Description
As women comprise the majority of the garment sector’s workforce in Ethiopia, addressing GBVH at garment factories is very crucial. Women being in low-status roles combined with the prevailing gender norms that uphold sexist attitudes and behaviors being common in the Ethiopian society combined with laws that are not protective can result in high levels of GBV and acceptance of those behaviors.
The purpose of Life Skills Trainer is to support project activities proposed under Promoting dignity and greater equality in the Ethiopian Garment Sector project funded by GIZ and implemented by CARE Ethiopia. The proposed project aims to establish effective workplace mechanism in garment factories to effectively address and respond to issues of sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse and empower female garment workers in Adama industrial park to confidently report instance of sexual harassment without fear from negative consequences. It also creates a platform for female workers to create solidarity and take on leadership to protect their right.
Job Responsibility #1: Implement Buna tetu project initiatives: Accessibility of the Worker’s café to all garment workers.
Closely work with government stakeholders and community representatives to establish the workers’ café in the resident area of the Adama Special Economic Zone.
Lead the project target selection collaboration with key stakeholders.
Support and cascade training provisions under Buna tetu project activities. Deliver gender and male engagement training to male relatives and key stakeholders to address gender norms and create an enabling environment for women workers at HIP.
Establish EKATA groups and follow up EKATA sessions including facilitating training for EKATA groups.
Facilitate and organize VSLA groups, regularly follow up their saving and support project targets to engage in income generating activities that can contribute to sustainability of the center.
Closely work with the team and the M&E Advisor to track progress records, share lessons learned including project reports.
Ensure all the services provided under the roof of the workers café including the Medical and Legal Counseling services, are accessible to all the project targets.

Job Responsibility #2: Ensure the Sustainability of Buna tetu Project Initiatives
Organize and support the established EKATA groups to form solidarity and form a cooperative association.
Establish an advisory committee comprises of members from different stakeholders, community representatives, elders and religious leaders. Organize regular meetings and follow up action plans.
Support the Buna tetu project targets to engage in small business activities to generate additional income and contribute to enable the workers café run its business by itself.

Job Responsibility #3: Ensure workplace mechanism that can respond to Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse is created.
Facilitate the endorsement and effective implementation of the PSHEA policy with companies.
Closely work with company focal person to follow up the implementation of the policy in each company.
Establish Anti-harassment committee, provide training to them and follow up their operation in each company. Bi-monthly meeting with committee members to update progresses, challenges and way forwards.
Conduct regular monthly meetings with the Joint implementation team comprises of members from companies and stakeholders and share meeting minutes.
Monitor and record cases reported using the monitoring checklist/template.
Preparing training manuals/materials and provide training on gender, GBV and PSHEA for company workers and other project targets.
Conduct pre-and-post training assessments during the training, monitor and administer the data encoding using Kobo tool.
Follow up with trained individuals on improved practices based on training packages provided.
Preparing training proceeding reports at the end of each training session and share it with the immediate supervisor.

Support organizational existing and upcoming Gender Equity and Diversity (GED) initiatives and facilitates information/knowledge sharing regarding the organization’s GED efforts
Promote gender equality within teams, communities and households
Ensure that reports are disaggregated by sex

Smoothly facilitate project activities with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders including community representatives.

A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
Required:
Degree in, Sociology, Psychology, Gender, Teaching, or other related social science fields.
B) EXPERIENCE
Required:
2-5 years related work experience.
Desired:
Experience in facilitating training on soft skill, gender, GBV and PSHEA.
C) TECHNICAL SKILLS
Required:
Knowledge of local language is mainly native in Afan Oromo
Effective training and communication skills.
Firm belief in teamwork and gender equality.
Conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development.
D) COMPETENCIES:
Respect, accountability, courage, excellence, stress management, team building, interpersonal skills, coaching, problem solving, planning, and organizing.
V.CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Life Skills Trainer is expected to establish an open relationship with the community, government counterparts and community-based organizations, as well as with the project staff.
VII. WORKING CONDITIONS:
The duty station of the Life Skills Trainer will be at Oromia region Adama City. The position strongly requires the life skill trainer to provide training and follow up project targets at night (garment workers off working hours) and over the weekends.
VIII. Duration of Work
The duration of work the life skill trainer will serve the project will be for 1 year.
