The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, GerhardHenrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention,control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public health importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

At the Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research Division (MNTD) of AHRI, we advance malaria research using high-performance computing (HPC) to process large-scale genomic, molecular, and bioinformatics data. This infrastructure enables us to explore complex biological systems and uncover new insights into malaria.

To strengthen and expand the productivity of our bioinformatics and data analytics team, we are seeking a technically skilled and motivated individual who is eager to contribute and meets the following qualifications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up, configuring, and maintaining HPC systems, including servers, storage, and networking components.

• Support the installation and management of Linux/Unix systems and job schedulers (SLURM, PBS).

• Help automate basic system tasks using scripting (Python or Bash).

• Monitor system performance and assist with updates, security, and troubleshooting.

• Assist in configuring databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and support data migration when needed.

• Follow data security and backup procedures to protect sensitive research information.

• Collaborate with team members and provide user support and basic documentation.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, software engineering, electrical/computer engineering, or data science.

• Basic understanding of HPC environments and Linux/Unix systems.

• Theoretical and basic practical understanding in scripting (Python or Bash), database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), job schedulers (SLURM, PBS).

• Willingness to learn new tools, trouble shoot issues, and support research computing tasks.

Duty station: Addis Ababa 

Salary: Per the organization scale

Terms of employment: One-year contract period with full-time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
