Job Description

The Bale Mountains are one of Africa’s hidden treasures — home to rare wildlife, spectacular landscapes and a watertower for millions of people in the region. Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) has worked alongside the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA) for over 20 years to protect this extraordinary landscape.

We’re looking for a dedicated Senior Technical Advisor to lead the charge in strategic park management at Bale Mountains National Park (BMNP). Based at park headquarters in Dinsho, you work in close partnership with the EWCA BMNP Chief Warden and coordinate with the FZS BMCP Landscape Unit Coordinator in Robe to guide strategic planning, boost team capacity and ensure effective and efficient on-the-ground conservation management. You'll also serve as a member of the FZS BMCP (Ethiopia) Senior Management Team.

Tasks include:

  • Lead the design and rollout of park strategies for Operations, Ecological Management & Monitoring, and Tourism

  • Drive the review and implementation of the park’s General Management Plan

  • Build a strong, unified EWCA–FZS team

  • Support rangers and local partners in effective law enforcement

  • Ensure all activities meet environmental social safeguards and legal frameworks

  • Oversee planning, budgeting, reporting, and donor coordination

Job Requirements

  • MSc (or equivalent) in conservation or natural resource management

  • 6+ years of international field experience, including 5+ in protected area management

  • Fluency in English - both written and verbal

  • Proven success in managing large, donor-funded projects

  • Experience working with government agencies and rangers

  • A strategic mindset and strong leadership skills

  • Willingness to live and work in a remote, highland environment
