About IPHC-E

The International Institute for Primary Health Care-Ethiopia (IPHC-E) serves as a dynamic center dedicated to strengthening primary health care (PHC) systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries. At the heart of IPHC-E’s mission is the advancement of equitable, resilient, and high-quality PHC systems designed to meet the needs of diverse populations. The Institute delivers technical expertise, policy guidance, and innovative solutions that empower governments and health institutions to drive impactful change. By translating research into practical policy, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and promoting adaptive leadership, IPHC-E enables countries to design and implement transformative health reforms that elevate population health outcomes.

To sustain its expanding portfolio of strategic initiatives, IPHC-E is seeking a highly capable and driven Associate, armed with strategic vision, analytical rigor, and exceptional problem-solving skills, to anchor high-impact projects in PHC reform, global health strategy, systems design, and institutional performance improvement.

A Dynamic Opportunity to Lead and Support Transformative Health Initiatives

The Associate plays an integral leadership role within the Institute, contributing to the advancement of strategic objectives and the successful delivery of high-impact health projects. This role requires a well-rounded professional who excels in consulting-style problem-solving, project management, and a nuanced understanding of primary health care systems—especially in low- and middle-income settings. As an Associate, you will navigate complex challenges, deliver top-tier work products, and support senior leadership decision-making, all while fostering team growth and cross-functional collaboration.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Delivery: Take the lead or co-lead major strategic initiatives in thematic areas such as PHC financing, workforce strategy, service delivery models, and digital health. Oversee the entire project lifecycle—including scoping, work planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, and final delivery.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Representation: Serve as a primary interface with senior government officials, development partners, technical experts, and internal teams. Represent the Institute at external forums, technical discussions, and workshops as required.

  • Technical Analysis & Insight Generation: Apply structured problem-solving approaches, conduct in-depth policy analysis and data modeling, and develop clear, actionable insights. Synthesize complex information into visually compelling reports, presentations, and decision-making tools.

  • Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Gather and review feedback from stakeholders, drive follow-up actions, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement across the team.

  • Team Support & Capacity Building: Mentor and support junior staff such as Analysts, actively contribute to team development, and promote institutional learning and knowledge sharing.

  • This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on global health outcomes while developing advanced leadership, analytical, and project management skills within a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

Job Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant professional experience in strategy consulting, management consulting, public sector advisory, international development, or related fields. Prior experience in the health sector, particularly in leading projects spanning health or cross-sectoral domains, is highly desirable. Familiarity with Ethiopia’s health system or other low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts will be considered an asset.

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, while maintaining a high standard of quality and adhering to tight deadlines, is essential. Exemplary organizational and multitasking abilities are required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory; proficiency in Amharic is highly advantageous. The candidate must be capable of working independently, showing initiative and accountability in the delivery of assigned tasks. A collaborative approach, strong interpersonal skills, and proven stakeholder management experience are critical for this role.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required; experience with data visualization or other analytic tools will be considered an additional asset.
