AQ Roses is a company that produces different kinds of flowers starting from 2006 based in Ziway, Oromia. The company had started its farming on 18 hectares based in the shores of Lake Denbel. Having maintained its qualities and quantities, currently AQ Roses flower farm has expanded its farming to 38 hectares instead of 18 hectares. Recently we have expanded our farm to Bishoftu as well.

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for leading the financial accounting, reporting, internal control, tax compliance, and cost management functions of the organization. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial operations across all branches with a special focus on farm activities. The Senior Cost Accountant will drive financial transparency, support strategic decision-making, and oversee the work of the accounting team.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting and Reporting

• Oversee the full-cycle accounting process, including general ledger management, journal entries, accruals, and closings.

• Support the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports preparation in accordance with IFRS and internal reporting standards.

• Ensure the integrity and completeness of financial statements through thorough account analysis and reconciliations.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting, and Strategic Financial Oversight

• Support the preparation of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis.

• Monitor budget execution and expenditure planning.

• Analyze financial trends and business performance and report to GFM with actionable recommendations.

3. Internal Controls and Audit Preparedness

• Enforce strong internal controls over accounting processes, cash management, procurement, and inventory.

• Ensure financial policies and procedures are in place, regularly reviewed, and adhered to.

• Perform the preparation and support for internal and external audits.

• Ensure compliance with internal audit and external auditor recommendations.

4. Fixed Asset and Inventory Management

• Maintain and monitor the Fixed Asset Register, including tagging, depreciation, revaluation, and disposal.

• Coordinate physical verifications and reconciliations of assets and inventory.

• Control asset acquisitions and ensure proper capitalization in line with IFRS and company policy.

5. Tax and Statutory Compliance

• Oversee all taxation matters, including VAT, withholding tax, income tax, and pension contributions.

• Ensure timely preparation, reconciliation, and submission of tax returns and declarations.

• Prepare VAT refund documentation and ERCA audit reports (including export sales summaries).

• Liaise with tax authorities and represent the company during tax reviews and audits.

• File the Purchase and sales declaration on the E-Tax system

6. Currency Management and Forex Transactions

• Oversee the handling of EUR and USD transactions, ensuring correct conversions and compliance with internal policies, and make recordings.

• Monitor and record forex gain/loss transactions.

• Record clearance transactions, including supplier settlements and import financing documentation.

7. Cost and Production Accounting (Agriculture Focus)

• Prepare the cost build-up of the imported goods and factory operations.

• Analyze, record, and report on cost variances between customs and the actual import cost computed.

• Collaborate and evaluate the procurement teams to validate the bill of materials (BOM), consumption rates, and standard costs.

• Review import cost allocations and perform raw material costing processes.

8. Intercompany Transactions and Reconciliations

• Record and manage intercompany credit notes, debit notes, and transfers between business units (e.g., DZ and Ziway).

• Reconcile intercompany accounts on a monthly basis and resolve outstanding balances and mismatches.

• Ensure proper documentation and approval workflows for inter-branch financial flows and eliminate duplication in consolidation.

9. Team Supervision and Capacity Building

• Lead and supervise accountants and finance officers across multiple branches (e.g., DZ and Ziway).

• Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to improve technical and reporting capacity.

• Set and monitor performance targets aligned with department KPIs.

10. ERP & Financial Systems Oversight

• Oversee finance module operations within the ERP/accounting system, Peachtree/Sage/QuickBooks

• Ensure all transactions (JVs, CRVs, GRNs, etc.) are posted timely and accurately.

• Support system improvements and automation initiatives to enhance reporting speed and accuracy.

11. Other Duties

• Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects such as expansion planning, cost optimization, and compliance reviews.

• Maintain organized filing and archiving systems for finance documentation.

Serve as acting head of finance in the absence of the Finance Manager

Job Requirements

• BA or MBA in Accounting and Finance

• 5+ and 3+ years respectively in progressively responsible for senior roles, preferably in horticulture, business

• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff.

• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
