Job Description
People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanity, freedom, equality and solidarity.
People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organizations in Central and Eastern Europe.
Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion.
We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in four regions; Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Sidama and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response.
People in Need, from the very start of its operations in Ethiopia, has focused on projects in five main areas of interest: Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water and Social protection.
We are part of Alliance 2015, ( a strategic network of seven European non-governmental organizations engaged in humanitarian aid and development projects. PIN currently invites qualified applicants for the position of: Education coordinator for Emergency Program, ‘’WASH and EIE Emergency response to the acute needs of the most vulnerable IDPs and host communities in Ethiopia”
Length of Contract: definite until January 31/2026 with high possibility of extension
Place of Work: - Based in Nekemet/ Oromiya region with frequent field travel to PIN’s project sites in different regions as required.

Job Description
The Education Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of ECHO-funded Education in Emergencies (EiE) activities in humanitarian response settings. The role ensures that children and youth affected by crisis have access to safe, inclusive, and quality education.
This position requires strong technical expertise, coordination, and leadership skills to support effective program delivery. The Education Coordinator will work closely with the Project Manager, field teams, partner organizations, and government stakeholders to ensure timely implementation and compliance with donor requirements and organizational standards.
PROGRAMME SUPPORT
Collaborate with the EiE Project Manager and relevant teams to determine project priorities and ensure alignment with project objectives and PIN’s strategic vision.
Lead the design, planning, and implementation of both formal and non-formal education activities, including Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS), Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP), and teacher training.
Ensure education interventions meet national education standards and the INEE Minimum Standards for Education in Emergencies.
Assess capacity-building needs of PIN; develop training plans and deliver tailored education trainings.
Supervise, mentor, and coach project team members (e.g., Field Officers, Community Social Workers) to ensure quality implementation.
Coordinate with other internal sectors team (e.g., WASH, Protection) and external to ensure a holistic approach to education programming.
Communicate with partners, local authorities and community leaders to discuss community needs and project objectives to build strong relationships
Support relevant actors (partners, community leaders, authorities) in understanding project objectives and carrying out activities according to the strategy and plan developed
Represent PIN in project EiE Technical Working Group and other relevant events, country coordination fora, bilateral meetings with partners and donors, including in cross-cutting sector platform in order to support the development of plans to collaborate and integrate EiE with other relevant sectors
Other tasks assigned by the line manager
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
Monitor progress of project activities, compare to plans and adjust as needed
Provide support and oversight as appropriate to PIN’s field staff, partners and communities to carry out baseline and end-line assessments and other relevant assessments.
Strengthen community involvement in education programming through School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
Ensure feedback mechanisms are in place and responsive to community and student needs.
Aid Project Manager and MEAL team in drafting quarterly, interim and final project reports to donors
Ensure that lessons learned from project implementation and shared accordingly with PIN’s and partners’ staff (and with other coordination bodies, as relevant), ensure that lessons learned are incorporated in on-going and future program.
ACCOUNCOUNTABILITY AND SAFEGUARDING including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH)
Carry out the duties in accordance with the PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.
Participate in training and awareness raising (CoC and KP, Safeguarding…).
Implement Safeguarding measures throughout the project cycle including a risk analysis related to SEAH and Child protection for each project and develop a mitigation plan accordingly.
Ensure that his/her team members attend training and awareness sessions and carry out the duties in accordance with PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.
Ensure that due diligence and/or capacity assessments of partners include an assessment of partners’ implementation of key safeguarding and risk policies/ procedure including the prevention of SEAH.
Create and maintain a fulfilling and protective environment.
General obligations and responsibilities
The Employee is obligated not to purvey any information concerning any of PIN activities to outsiders (including former PIN employees, who may no more be informed about current process in PIN).
PIN is a relief and development organization whose aim is to help and assist needy people. The Employee’s position within the institution requires contacts with outside; he or she therefore conveys a certain image of the PIN. PIN expects its Employees to behave in appropriate manners at all times and in all places. All members of staff should ensure their attitudes correspond to PIN principles, both during and after working hours.
The Employee takes over the responsibility for all entrusted material or cash. The Employee is obligated to cover all damages or losses caused by his carelessness. The Agreement of Liability of Assets has been signed separately.

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
·At least 3-5 years proven experience working with education in emergencies programmers in Ethiopia
Experience with WASH in schools and Protection will be an advantage
Experience working in complex and volatile contexts
Understanding of Oromia context and willingness to travel to the field
Proven ability to coordinate with diverse group of staff, stakeholders and local authorities, build and maintain good relationships
Demonstrated patience, enthusiasm and strong personal skills with attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively with team members.
Proven knowledge and respect of key humanitarian principles
Experience with Training design and facilitation
Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft word and excel) and ability to type in Oromiffaa and English
Fluency in Oromiffa local (regional) language ability is a plus
knowledge of spoken & written Amharic and English.
