Job Description

The primary objective of the Officer – Payment and Settlement is to supervise and manage all payment and settlement operations, ensuring accurate cheque clearance, bulk transaction processing, and real-time gross settlement (RTGS) through the Core Banking System. The role aims to maintain financial integrity by authorizing high-value transactions, initiating actions for fund availability, and reviewing reconciliation reports for various accounts. It also fosters efficient communication with branches, Head Office units, and regulatory bodies, such as the National Bank of Ethiopia, to ensure timely inter-bank settlements. Additionally, the position supports the Director of Finance & Facility Management by preparing key documentation and coordinating the resolution of outstanding reconciliation items, thereby contributing to the Bank’s operational stability and service excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and monitor daily cheque clearance and bulk transaction activities.

  • Authorize outgoing payment of Head Office and branch Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transactions through the CBS

  • Review reconciliation reports for payment and settlement account, issue and reserve account, Nostro accounts (correspondent bank accounts), other bank accounts, stock and fixed assets accounts, and report to the Manager, Reconciliation Manager

  • Initiate appropriate action to ensure the availability of sufficient funds in the payment and settlement account.

  • Communicate with branches, head office, and other stakeholders (clients, National Bank of Ethiopia) for the smooth settlement of inter-bank payments

  • Make available to the Director, Finance & Facility Management required documents for correspondence with other banks for settlement of outstanding items related to cheque clearance and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transactions.

  • Supervise the follow-up of all outstanding items on bank reconciliation statements, inter-branch accounts, through communication with responsible persons and various organizational units.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree/BA Degree in Accounting, Management, Economics, or other business-related fields 

  • Experience: With 4/6 years of banking experience, of which 2 Years in the banking sector. Experience with Interest-Free Banking (IFB) institutions will be considered an added
