Job Description
The Assistant GBV Officer will be part of the protection team and typically report to a senior GBV or protection staff member, or the Child Protection (CP) managers and GBV focal persons. This role involves working directly with communities and individuals of concern to identify risks and ensure the implementation of a community and rights-based approach to GBV. The incumbent will plan and execute high-quality, timely, and effective GBV prevention and response initiatives that align with Plan International Ethiopia’s policy and guidance. These initiatives will adopt an age, gender, and diversity-inclusive perspective while following a survivor-cantered approach.

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)
Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Ensures that the team members under supervision are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day-to-day work.
Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.
The Individual
Diploma in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, International Development, Cultural Studies, Human Rights, International Social Work, Social Science, Political Science, Anthropology, Law, or other relevant fields.
A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
A comprehensive understanding of relevant policies, strategies, and the national SGBV strategic plan, along with guidelines for SGBV and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Ethiopia for SGBV prevention and response.
Strong skills in partnership building, networking, lobbying, and advocacy.
Experience related to GBV is required; relevant academic experience is preferred.
A demonstrated commitment to the core principles of GBV programming, including gender equality and survivor-cantered support services.
Familiarity with GBV prevention and risk mitigation standards, approaches, and tools
Familiarity with government and NGO service providers.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain flexible, and apply experience and guidance to evolving challenges.
