Job Description
Light for the World is a global development organisation. We empower people with disabilities and enable eye health services in low-income countries. Over the last three decades we improved health systems, enabled education for all, and amplified the voices of people with disabilities. We focus on the poorest and hardest to reach because that’s where we will have the biggest impact.
Our programmes include:
Eye Health – preventing blindness and promoting eye health for all.
Inclusive Education – ensuring children with disabilities receive quality, inclusive education.
Inclusive Economic Empowerment – ensuring that barriers are removed for men and women with disabilities to access decent work.
In Ethiopia, our country strategy for the year 2021-2025 focuses on Eye Health, Inclusive Economic Empowerment, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), Inclusive Education and Humanitarian Action. Advocacy and disability inclusion are cross cutting theme. Currently, Light for the World Ethiopia is supporting projects in Addis Ababa City Administration, Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, Sidama, and SNNP regions.
Light for the world therefore seeks the services of an experienced and self-driven person to lead this innovative and ambitious project hence the vacancy below.
Job Title: Field Level Accountant
Contract length: up to 31 Dec 2025 with the possibility of extension
Reports to: Grant and Controlling specialist
Location: Field office Oromia, Nekemte
Number of Post: 1 (One)
Purpose
To ensure the completeness and integrity of the project finance supported by in LIGHT FOR THE WORLD and implemented by the Zonal health department for the entomology and serological surveys.in Oromia at field level.
Financial Management & Budget Monitoring
Manage and monitor project budgets for field surveys in Oromia and Benishangul regions.
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions (cash, checks, bank transfers) and reconcile cash advances, expense reports, and bank statements.
Ensure adequate cash flow for field operations and safeguard financial resources.
Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to the Grant and Controlling Specialist by specified deadlines.
Payment Facilitation & Field Support Process and facilitate payments for data collectors, enumerators, and other field survey participants across Oromia and Benishangul regions.
Collect and verify attendance sheets, representation letters, and other payment documentation.
Prepare payment sheets and ensure timely disbursement of funds to participants.
Liaise with local authorities and partners to resolve payment-related issues.
Field Monitoring & Document Collection
Conduct field visits to monitor financial compliance and verify survey activities.
Collect and review financial documents (receipts, invoices, attendance records) from field staff and partners.
Ensure all field expenses are properly documented and aligned with donor requirements.
Compliance & Reporting
Review and validate financial transactions (vouchers, cash advances, transfers) for accuracy and compliance.
Administer cash advances to staff and partners, ensuring timely reconciliation of receipts and remaining balances.
Ensure all rental, facility, and vehicle contracts are current and properly documented.
Identify areas for financial/administrative improvement and implement corrective measures.
Capacity Building & Coordination
Train field staff and partners on financial policies, documentation, and reporting.
Support the Grant and Controlling Specialist in audits, donor reporting, and risk management.
Foster teamwork and supervise field finance staff as needed
Qualification, Skill and Experience requirement
BA degree in accounting and a minimum of three years’ relevant work experience.
Financial managements experiences of projects funded by major donors.

Able to understand financial reporting requirements by donors.
Result oriented; work with minimum supervision; work independently.
Willingness to frequently travel to project areas
Good Knowledge of accounting software.
Good team spirit and experience of supervising staff.

Self-motivated and determination
