Job Description
Positive Action for Development (PAD) is one of the most vibrant, rapidly expanding, and results-driven civil society organizations in Ethiopia. Positive Action for Development (PAD) is currently scaling up its intervention to focus on humanitarian, NEXUS, and development activities. This includes expanding PAD intervention throughout the country, including Addis Abeba, Amhara, Oromia, Harari, Afar, Somali, Tigray, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Ethiopia's southern regional states.

The Nutrition programs coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of Nutrition sector projects across PAD operation areas under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition program coordinator and oversight by the programs manager. The Nutrition Program coordinator is responsible for providing collective and close budget monitoring of Nutrition projects, ensuring strict compliance with organizational policies, procedures, set cluster/Sphere standards, protocols, and guidelines. The Nutrition program coordinator will ensure CMAM, IYCF-E, GMP, innovative activities such as Family MUAC approaches, Surveys and assessments, and operational research in the respective base are delivered under standard guidelines. S/he is expected to lead and participate in designing high-quality nutrition project proposals and generating program lessons in close collaboration with their technical supervisors, other departments, and other key stakeholders at the local level. S/he is also expected to capacitate, encourage, supervise, and guide the nutrition and health team at the base level to ensure that basic life-saving services are provided to intended beneficiaries or clients to the highest standard of care and norm. The Nutrition coordinator is expected to strengthen and maintain productive working relationships within and outside the organization, and should work effectively with local government authorities, beneficiaries or clients, key donors, clusters, and other partners. In addition, he/she will represent PAD at the national-level nutrition sector and localization task force meetings and coordination platforms. S/he will be expected to establish and maintain the highest standards of professional integrity in line with PAD's values, principles, and code of conduct.
Under the overall supervision of the Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator and oversight by the program manager, the Nutrition & Health Coordinator will:
Provide overall strategic guidance and support to the nutrition team on effective and efficient implementation of projects in line with the country strategy, technical framework, donor requirements, and cluster standards.
Ensure the quality implementation of integrated nutrition services, such as SC, OTP, TSFP, IYCF-E, Family MUAC, IMNCI, and RMNCH under standard protocols and guidelines both in host communities and refugee programs.
Lead and participate in designing high-quality nutrition project proposals and generating program lessons in close collaboration with the health and nutrition coordinator, Program Manager, and business development unit.
Support field-level coordinators on strong and functional service referral linkages and network within the community for the early detection, referral, and treatment of acutely malnourished individuals, as well as treatment of critical medical cases.
Assess the training needs and gaps of the nutrition team and plan to organize appropriate training promptly.
Ensure the timely and consistent procurement, availability, and utilization of essential nutrition supplies and equipment in all nutrition centers through internal and external coordination mechanisms.
In collaboration with the IT team, ensure the proper handling and application of IT systems and devices (Laptops, tablets, printers, etc) that support effective and efficient nutrition assistance provision.
Inspire and motivate the team to achieve and maintain desirable nutrition project performance outcomes as per the SPHERE standard and national guidelines.
Coordinate with other sectors and thematic areas in PAD, such as Health, WASH, Shelter NFI, CCCM, FSL, and Protection coordinators, and ensure an effective integration of services at each service delivery point to maximize impact and benefit.
Identify and propose the development of new innovative Nutrition programs and projects in collaboration with the Health and Nutrition coordinator and the Business Development unit.
Develop annual nutrition master beneficiaries and BoQ for host communities in close coordination with field-based technical advisors and the MEAL department.
Prepare a Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) for Nutrition projects in close consultation with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and Program Manager.
Ensure and support the implementation of project activities according to the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) stipulated in each project or grant in collaboration with field project coordinators.
Make a close follow-up of project budget utilization status through close monitoring of BMRs and identifying and addressing outstanding challenges on time in close consultation with the line manager.
Lead and participate in regular base-level SMT meetings; provide up-to-date information and inputs in a manner that would enhance the timely and effective implementation of projects.
Preparing quality grant reports (Narrative and Qualitative), narrative and quantitative reports, both for internal and external purposes in line with agreed timeframes and standards.
Ensure that project staff are adhering to the standard reporting and recording system of PAD.
Participate in relevant nutrition and health surveys and assessments, including SMART surveys that are carried out in host communities in collaboration with the PM and MEAL department.
Ensure that monthly data compilation and reporting of activities for internal and external consumption are produced and submitted promptly.
Evaluate the relevance and appropriateness of the intervention because of the evolution of the context, introduce new interventions as required, and make program reflections, adjustments, and recommendations as necessary.
Make sure that there is a continuous documentation and dissemination of evidence, program lessons and best practices, success stories, mainly at the base level, and summarize key findings for advocacy and program implication purposes.
Organize and conduct periodic project review meetings in coordination with MEAL.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
External coordination, representation, and communication in the Nutrition Sector
Represent PAD and participate in regional and national-level Nutrition task forces, Clusters, and coordination platforms to provide updates and receive guidance.
Liaise and coordinate with other like-minded international and local partners to advocate for greater commitment to a multisectoral nutrition response.
Support and facilitate donor field visits to the country office and project operational locations.
Share minutes and summary of action points of relevant coordination and joint meetings attended.
Update the online activity info.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
University degree or Master's in Nutrition Sciences or related field of study from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in international NGOs.
Work Experience
Proven Experience in the Nutrition sector, led/and coordination of nutrition response programs, grant management experience, is a valuable addition.
In-depth knowledge of nutrition-sensitive operation/response guidance and tools.
Knowledge of policy and practice in the field of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (Nutrition).
Practical experience and detailed knowledge of nutrition-sensitive response, with emphasis on acute/rapid onset and recovery programs, is essential.
Thorough knowledge of data protection issues in emergency operations.
Excellence in the utilization of Microsoft Office applications, including databases, is required.
Ability to adapt technical knowledge and expertise to specific projects or activities.
Ability to work with colleagues from different cultural and professional backgrounds; flexibility to perform and deliver in difficult and rapidly changing situations is essential.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
