About the job

To provide expert technical support in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance: Consistently examine, clean, and maintain plant machinery and production equipment, electrical systems, control systems, and main power systems to guarantee optimal performance and avoid breakdowns. (e.g. Flexography Printing Machine, Forklifts, Transformer, Automated Systems, etc.)

• Breakdown maintenance: Restore basic conditions when immediate action is required for losses (e.g. breakdowns, minor stops, and speed losses).

• Troubleshoot breakdowns: Diagnose problems, identify root causes, and implement solutions to fix malfunctioning equipment and prevent reoccurrence. 

• Use hand, power and specialized electrical tools: Employ basic, electrical and specialized tools and equipment to inspect and maintain machinery and electrical systems.

• Facility Maintenance:  Perform maintenance and repair tasks on the Building’s electrical system. (E.g. Building electrical wiring and sockets, electrical appliances, lighting system, etc.)

• Monitor the condition of electrical assets and provide recommendations for timely replacements or refurbishments as needed.

Collaboration and Communication

• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including engineering, production, and quality assurance, to ensure alignment on maintenance schedules and operational goals.

• Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding equipment status, maintenance needs, and safety concerns.

Installation and Modification

• Install and assembly: Set up and configure electrical systems, assemble and disassemble mechanical components as required for repairs, modification and new installations.

• Design and implement modifications: Evaluate/Assess existing machinery and design, implement, and test changes to improve efficiency and performance.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain detailed records: Accurately document repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks for future reference.

• Electrical Drawings: Accurately document existing machine and subcomponents for future reference and communication to stakeholders.

• Report equipment performance: Communicate issues and provide recommendations for improvements.

• Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Utilize RCA tools to avert recurring breakdowns and production losses. (E.g. 5 Whys, Fishbone diagram, etc.)

• Emergency Response

• Availability: Being available for on-call emergencies and respond promptly to urgent maintenance needs or equipment failures, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

• Crisis Management: Implement effective troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques during emergencies to restore operations quickly and efficiently.

• Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on the latest technologies and best practices in manufacturing processes.

• Identify opportunities for process optimization and recommend solutions to enhance equipment reliability and performance.

Senior-Level Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor and ensure capability of junior staff providing technical guidance and training.

• Monitor team performance and report to your respective manager.

• Coordinate and oversee equipment upgrades or installations and manage resources effectively and efficiently.

• Prepare reports on equipment performance and maintenance history.

• Develop scheduled preventive maintenance checklists and Annual shutdown plans

• Identify critical spares and list out items for annual shut down maintenance plans.

• Train junior staff: Provide guidance, support and hands-on trainings to less experienced team members. Develop training materials and programs to facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure adherence to best practices in electrical safety and maintenance.

• Supervise projects and external jobs: Oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems.

Job Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• TVET diploma in Electrical, Industrial courses.

Experience

• Six years’ work experience in a printing or packaging company for degree holders

• Eight years’ work experience in a printing or packaging company for TVET holders
