Job Description
The Center for innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) is a World Bank supported African Center of Excellence hosted in the College of Health Sciences of Addis Ababa University. The main objective of CDT-Africa is to support equitable access to interventions (Medications, diagnostics, and other interventions) and bring about sustainable development in Africa through high quality capacity development for innovative drug and therapeutic discoveries.
As part of this effort, CDT-Africa would like to hire an experienced data manager who can co-ordinate CDT-Africa projects. The data manager would have cross-centre responsibilities while linked to the SPARK project (SuPporting African communities to increase the Resilience and mental health of Kids with developmental disorders and their caregivers). SPARK is a cluster randomized controlled trial of the WHO Caregiver Skills Training programme for children with developmental disorders. The SPARK trial is conducted across in Addis Ababa.
The Role of the Data Manager
The successful applicant will be responsible for technical support to establish data management structures for all CDT-Africa projects, with particular responsibility for SPARK, under the guidance of the CDT-Africa Center Lead and study investigators, and project coordinators.
Principal responsibilities:
Work closely with project investigators and co-ordinators to plan and co-ordinate data management structures and activities in CDT-Africa.
Engage in training in different trial data management platforms.
Maintain the data management of the databases for the SPARK trial in REDCap.
Conduct quality control checks for data collected in SPARK and implement necessary data corrections in REDCap
Prepare weekly back-ups of all SPARK data.
Provide data reports to support trial interim analyses.
Develop and promote implementation of standardised operating procedures for quality data collection and management in CDT-Africa.
Ensure that data management complies with Good Clinical Practice through development and implementation of robust data handling procedures.
Ensure compliance with data handling requirements of external partners (e.g. GDPR).
Develop and deliver training for CDT-Africa staff and students relating to data management of trials.
Clean and analyse quantitative data.
Lead the drafting of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
Additional tasks as directed by the Head of the Center or study investigators.
Requirements
MSc in health-related or social science-related field or statistics, with thesis.
At least 3 years of experience with health research data management.
Proficiency in REDCap programming.
Proficiency with statistical software and excel.
Excellent computer program literacy and knowledge.
Previous hands-on experience with data collection and handling data from clinical trials.
Experience delivering training.
Willingness to travel to the field, as needed.
Experience in working with international collaborators.
Discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methodsand analysis.
Strong administrative and organisational skills.

Terms and conditions
Salary: Negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours of Work: Are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working overtime and weekends, with due financial compensation.
Holidays: Are governed by the rules of Addis Ababa University for project workers.
Length ofContract: 6 months post witha possibility 6-month renewal.
Probationary Period and Notice Period: There is a three-month probationary period for this role. The notice period is one month.
