Job Description
SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Bahir Dar is looking for competent candidates to apply for the vacant position that meets the requirements stated bellow.
Position summary
The KG Deputy Principal is generally responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the work and day to day activities of teaching professionals, implementation of academic, social and emotional learning programs of children. She is also responsible for the effective operation and general administration of the kindergarten. He/she supervise educators and assistant educators, leads the development of educational programs improvement, foster a culture of positive, engaged learners, and serve as a strong advocate for the school’s core values including developmental philosophy and parental involvement.
Under the Kindergarten Principal the deputy principal takes over the following responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
Assisting the Principal in daily school operations, including overseeing student discipline, supervision, and attendance.
Contributing to the development of school policies and procedures.
Managing staff, including performance evaluations and professional development.
Representing the school in the community and with external stakeholders.
Student Development:
Supporting teachers in implementing the curriculum and providing individualized support for students.
Monitoring student achievement and providing data-driven insights for improvement.
Facilitating positive relationships between students and teachers.
Curriculum and Instruction:
Assisting in the planning, organization, and delivery of the Kindergarten curriculum.
Supporting teachers in developing and implementing engaging and effective lesson plans.
Monitoring and evaluating the quality of instruction and student outcomes.
Parent and Community Relations:
Communicating regularly with parents about their children's progress and well-being.
Building strong relationships with parents and community members to support student learning.
Participating in school events and outreach activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
Deputizing for the Principal in their absence.
Overseeing the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff.
Participating in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education
Reporting
Prepares and submits performance reports as per the directives thereon.
Performs other similar duties as assigned by the Kindergarten Principal.
SAFEGUARDING (CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND ASSETS)
Responsible for ensuring that all target groups are receiving ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about SOS Children Village’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
Ensure that all support is provided in the best interest of the young person.
Responsible for participating in awareness-raising sessions and capacity-building training about safeguarding and the Code of Conduct and to prevent and protect young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.
Support young people to make them understand the safeguarding risks and protection mechanisms.
Responsible to report any safeguarding suspicion, concern, allegation, or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. safeguarding reports should be made to the safeguarding team at the programme level and/or to the respective line manager.
Responsible for ensuring behaviours and all relationships are based on safeguarding and in line with the Code of Conduct and adhering to it in every situation.
Be vigilant about any possible form of abuse/harm, neglect, harassment, or exploitation against young people in their personal and professional lives.
Report any safeguarding incident or concern within 24 hours to the Incident
Management Team, focal person or concerned party through the defined channels for reporting the allegation
Qualification- BA in Early Child Care & Education/BA in Kindergarten Education/ Educational Psychology/ Pedagogy, BA in Educational Planning & Management plus certificate Pre-School Teachers training
Experience: Minimum of 4 / Four years’ experience in KG leadership
