Job Description

The General Practitioner oversees inpatient services across wards. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality clinical care, efficient patient flow, and effective coordination among inpatient units, aligning with standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: 

    • Meeting patients who visit KADISCO General Hospital with the highest level possible politness 

    • Carry out appropriate detailed history taking, examinations and investigations that help to diagnose their medical condition/or illness.

    • Keeping detailed, up-to-date records of all patients treatments 

  • Coordination and Supervision: 

    • Coordinate and supervise staff assigned to the medical wards and ICU, ensuring optimal patient care and skill mix

    • Oversee daily operations and performance of inpatient staff

  • Patient Flow and Documentation: 

    • Facilitate daily multidisciplinary team (MDT) rounds and ensure timely, accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) 

    • Oversee admission and discharge, ensuring compliance with liaison office

  • Quality of Care: 

    • Monitor inpatient care quality and ensure adherence to hospital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical guidelines 

    • Implement and monitor protocols for reducing hospital-acquired infections and improving patient outcomes

    • Actively engage in clinical quality improvement programs  

  • Collaboration: 

    • Collaborate with nursing and specialist staff for seamless patient care 

    • Maintain and validate interdepartmental consultation and referral protocols

    • Participate in multidisciplinary teams like IPPS/ASP, PMT & DTC actively. 

  • Reporting and Improvement: 

    • Submit regular reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) to the Medical Director on service delivery, gaps, and improvement initiatives

    • Coordinate regular audits and quality improvement (QI) projects based on findings

Job Requirements

Qualifications
•    Medical Degree (MD) with a valid license to practice in Ethiopia 
•    Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in an inpatient setting, preferably in wards or ICU
•    Training in IPC/IPPS, HMIS and Clinical Quality Improvement preferred. 
Skills 
•    Strong leadership and communication skills
•    Proficiency in EHR usage and data analysis,
•    Knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols 
•    Strong problem-solving and critical thinking.
