About the Ministry
The Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia is the lead government institution responsible for the formulation and implementation of fiscal policy, mobilization and management of public resources, and oversight of national economic planning. Its core mandates include preparing the federal budget, managing public debt, coordinating external economic cooperation, overseeing public investment and state-owned enterprises, and ensuring sound public financial management across government institutions. The Ministry also plays a central role in driving Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform agenda, working to strengthen economic governance, promote transparency and accountability, and enhance the efficiency of public expenditure. Through these technical functions, the Ministry serves as a key institution in shaping the country’s development priorities and ensuring the effective delivery of
national economic and social programs.
THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM (YPP)
The Young-Professionals Program offers recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience in key areas relating to Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda. Through training, mentorship and hands-on experience the program prepares the next generation of leaders to take on meaningful roles at the Ministry of Finance.

Contract structure
Location: Ministry of Finance, Addis Ababa
Duration: Two-year fixed term contract with a possibility of extention
Salary: competitive, incremental based on performance
Program Structure
The Young Professionals Program is a two-year initiative designed to build
technical capacity and foster leadership in public finance.
• YPs will undergo hands-on technical training for the first 2 weeks of their
placement. Following the training YPs will be placed with selected key
departments according to their educational background. These departments perform most of the ministry’s mandates and are responsible for
management of government finance and economic management. Departments include, Tax Policy, Legal Affairs, Budget Preparation, Debt Management, Treasury, Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation departments.
• Year One focuses on intensive training, mentorship, structured learning,
and rotational placements across key departments within the Ministry of
Finance.
• Year Two involves full-time placement of each Young Professional into a specific department aligned with their skills and interests. Upon completion of the second year, the Ministry may offer permanent
positions to outstanding participants, subject to individual performance and the overall success of the program.
