Position Title= Agriculture Livelihood Officer 

Reports to=Project Coordinator 

Location= Debrebirhan and Tarmaber with 40% travel to 8 other woredas of North shewa zone, Amhara Region

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Agriculture livelihood officer to join our team. As a leading youth livelihood diversification and economic empowerment organization, we are committed to promoting sustainable and efficient agricultural practices. As an Agriculture livelihood officer, you will play a key role in driving our efforts to support young farmers and optimize crop production and livestock management. 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct field trials and experiments to evaluate crop performance, livestock management and identify areas for improvement.

  • Collect and analyze soil, plant, and water samples to determine nutrient levels and develop fertilizer recommendations.

  • Advise farmers on best practices for soil and water management, crop rotation, livestock value chain management (diary and meat production) and pest control.

  • Provide training and support to farmers on the use of new technologies and techniques.

  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture and protect the environment.

  • Work in close collaboration with woreda level development agents and agriculture office to cascade training and establish demonstration sites.

  • Work with economic empowerment officers to establish rural MSMEs and self-help groups

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

  • BSc degree in Agronomy or related field

  • Experience in conducting field research and experiments

  • Knowledge of sustainable farming practices

  • Experience working with farmers and agricultural businesses

  • Knowledge and experience of value livestock value chain

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • At least 5 years of experience as an Agronomist or agriculture livelihood expert.

  • Strong knowledge of crop science, soil science, animal science and plant nutrition.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to ethical and environmentally responsible practices.
