Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting in the development of strategy, policies and procedures for legal function and managing all matters related to legal advice and other contracts that regulates the day to- day operations of the Bank.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the development of legal service strategy, policies, and procedures of the bank, ensuring their effective implementation in the division.

  • Plan, organize, direct, Coordinate and control the overall activities of the division.

  • Assist in developing and revising the division’s policy, procedures and manual. 

  •  Provide legal advice and opinion to units of the Bank.

  • Examine and scrutinize requests for advice with due consideration to the complexity and gravity of the matter.

  • Manage representation of the Bank in courts to handle cases brought by or against the Bank when a case is assigned.

  • Maintain proper records of court cases and appear in court based on time schedules.

  • Review its contracts/ agreements in a way protecting the interest of the Bank.

  • Manage in the preparation of legal opinion on credit and non-credit agreements to which the Bank is a party.

  • Manage and provide legal advice and opinion on non-credit related legal matters.

  • Review legal aspects of the bank’s operational policies, procedures, manuals and suggest improvement 

  • Manage and review contracts, formats, and practices to ensure their completeness, compliance with the law and their adequacy in protecting the Bank’s interest and preventing it from liability.

  • Execute legal audit activities and work closely with various functional units and the Branch on legal matters.

  • Manage and review memoranda of claims, defense, counter defense, appeal … etc.

  • Manage all legal codes, literature, and documents are properly arranged and kept for easy reference which includes building up cases and legislative indexes.

  • Track changes in legislations, precedents, regulatory environments and propose a way forward

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/ B.Sc. Degree in law

Experience:

  • At least 11 years relevant experience with 2 years as Section Head Level Or Managerial Level
