Designation : Head – IT Services
Reports to : Chief Operations Officer
The Head – IT Services is responsible for leading the hospital's IT strategy, ensuring the efficient operation and security of IT systems, and supporting the hospital's mission of delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves overseeing IT infrastructure, electronic health information systems (e-HIS), data integrity, compliance with healthcare regulations, and fostering innovation. Reporting to the CEO, the Head – IT Services collaborates with internal stakeholders to align technology with the hospital’s operational and patient care goals.
Strategic Leadership & IT Governance
Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the hospital’s business and patient care objectives.
Oversee the hospital's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and e-HIS systems.
Ensure IT systems meet national and international healthcare compliance standards (e.g., ISO, HIMSS, JCIA, NABH).
Provide strategic input on emerging technologies and digital transformation to enhance hospital efficiency and patient outcomes.
2. IT Operations & System Management
Manage day-to-day IT operations, ensuring 24/7 system availability to support patient care and business continuity.
Supervise the design, implementation, and maintenance of the hospital’s IT infrastructure (SAN/NAS, PACS, database systems).
Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, availability, and privacy in compliance with information security standards (ISMS).
Oversee database management (Oracle & MS SQL) and application performance optimization.
Manage structured cabling, system architecture, and physical infrastructure projects.
3. Information Security & Data Privacy
Design and enforce data security protocols to protect sensitive patient information and comply with legal standards.
Implement and monitor robust backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard critical hospital data.
Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and vulnerability testing to ensure a secure IT environment.
Ensure compliance with Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and hospital-wide cybersecurity frameworks.
4. Project Management & Innovation
Plan, execute, and manage IT projects to support hospital operations and digital health initiatives.
Collaborate with system analysts and clinical teams to align application architecture with hospital needs.
Lead the implementation of new technologies and innovations to optimize workflows and patient care.
Manage cross-functional IT projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
5. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Oversee vendor management, including procurement, contract negotiations, and performance monitoring.
Ensure effective communication and collaboration between IT, clinical departments, and external partners.
Define and maintain SLAs for all third-party IT services to ensure seamless integration and quality assurance.
6. Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary IT team, ensuring continuous skill development and knowledge sharing.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and professional growth within the IT department.
Design and deliver training programs to upskill staff on new technologies, software, and IT security practices.
Evaluate team performance and implement professional development initiatives to enhance technical expertise.
7. Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure adherence to industry standards (ISO, HIMSS, JCIA, CII) and quality assurance policies.
Maintain and document compliance records for internal audits and external regulatory inspections.
Regularly review and update IT policies, ensuring alignment with best practices and legal frameworks.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Strategic IT leadership and healthcare technology expertise.
Strong project management and system implementation capabilities.
In-depth knowledge of healthcare compliance (ISO, HIMSS, JCIA, NABH).
Information security and risk management expertise.
Vendor negotiation and stakeholder collaboration.
Effective communication and cross-functional coordination.
Additional Responsibilities:
Stay informed on emerging technologies and best practices in healthcare IT.
Design and implement contingency plans to maintain critical IT services during emergencies.
Support hospital-wide digital transformation and innovation projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Board of Directors.
Qualification : Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Preferred : Master’s Degree in IT Management, Healthcare Informatics, or MBA with IT specialization. Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, or equivalent are desirable.
Experience : 10+ years of progressive experience in managing IT services. Minimum 5 years in a leadership role, preferably within a healthcare or hospital environment.
