Job Summary

The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) is responsible for providing strategic clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, and fostering a culture of clinical excellence. The CCO will oversee clinical governance, patient safety, medical staff management, and regulatory compliance. This role collaborates with the leadership team to align clinical operations with the hospital's mission and strategic objectives while maintaining the highest standards of care.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Clinical Leadership

  • Develop and implement clinical strategies that align with the hospital's mission, vision, and long-term goals.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve clinical performance benchmarks.

  • Drive clinical innovation and implement best practices in patient care delivery.

  • Ensure alignment of clinical services with emerging healthcare trends, including digital health and telemedicine.

2. Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee and enforce clinical governance frameworks to maintain quality, safety, and compliance.

  • Lead clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g., NABH, JCI, and local healthcare regulations).

  • Monitor clinical outcomes and patient safety indicators, ensuring prompt resolution of clinical risks.

3. Patient-Centered Care & Experience

  • Promote a culture of patient-centred care by enhancing patient satisfaction and engagement.

  • Implement and monitor patient feedback mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and ethical medical care.

  • Advocate for patient rights and ensure culturally competent care across all clinical teams.

4. Medical Staff Leadership & Development

  • Oversee the recruitment, credentialing, and performance evaluation of medical staff in collaboration with the HR department.

  • Manage the medical staff roster and ensure appropriate coverage across all departments.

  • Foster a culture of professional development through mentoring, training, and continuous education programs.

  • Collaborate with department heads to identify and nurture future clinical leaders.

5. Operational Oversight

  • Collaborate with operational leaders to optimize clinical workflows and ensure seamless service delivery.

  • Implement and monitor clinical protocols and guidelines to enhance patient care efficiency.

  • Ensure readiness for emergency and disaster management, including public health emergencies.

  • Oversee the integration of advanced clinical technologies and digital health initiatives.

6. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between medical staff, executive leadership, and external regulatory bodies.

  • Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare partners, and public health authorities to enhance clinical services.

  • Communicate clinical performance metrics and strategic priorities to internal and external stakeholders.

7. Financial & Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure cost-effective resource utilization without compromising patient care quality.

  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget and monitor clinical expenditure.

  • Oversee contracts with medical service providers, ensuring quality and financial accountability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Board of Directors.

Job Requirements

Qualification: MD with a postgraduate degree in a relevant clinical specialty.

Preferred Master's in Hospital Administration (MHA) or equivalent. 

Additional certifications such as FACHE (Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives) or CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) .

Experience  : 15+ years of clinical practice and hospital administration experience. Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role in a multi-specialty hospital (preferably 50-100 beds)
