Job Description

Positive Action for Development (PAD) is one of the most vibrant, rapidly expanding, and results-driven civil society organizations in Ethiopia.  Overall Responsibility

The child protection in protection and sustainable reintegration project is focused on Case management, psychosocial support (which includes the provision of psychosocial support to children through community-based child protection networks and child-friendly spaces), community strengthening and capacity building for project and government staff.

The Cp officer works in close collaboration with the project manager to ensure quality and effective implementation of the project activities at community level, organize and facilitate capacity building training workshops for partners, stakeholders and PAD staff; participate on various assessments including stakeholder mapping, baseline and end line assessment; monitor government partners and PAD implemented activities and discuss on success and challenges. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the individual case management process, including identification, documentation, and referrals.

  • Provide problem-solving solutions to community workers. 

  • Coordinate with other agencies relating to interagency Child Protection and psycho social issues arising within the response region.

  • Liaise with local authority leadership regarding Child Protection and psycho social issues to be addressed at the community level.

  • Facilitate regular meetings with local community leaders (zone leaders) regarding community-based child protection and psycho social interventions and actions;

  • Ensure the correct management of Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) CFS monitoring tools documentation at Woreda level;

  • Facilitate participatory analysis and planning at Woreda levels to identify and prioritise risks posed to children;

  • Provide CP community Workers with technical support regarding complex cases or specific technical difficulties

  • Responsible for the overall project implementation, works with and supervises the activities of community-based CFS facilitators at the Child Friendly Spaces

  • Supervise the woreda Child Friendly Space locations by visiting Child Friendly Spaces on a regular basis, ensuring that activities are implemented in an appropriate manner and according to schedule

  • Provide technical capacity to CFS facilitators on basic concepts of CP, PFA, and PSS to roll out activities based on agreed minimum standards.

  • Ensure that missing children are followed up on and that regular meetings occur between CFS and communities

  • Produce timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information, on CP activities and input into regular situation reports.

  • Identify and build links with other partners, ensuring that issues for child protection and psycho social support are raised and addressed.

  • Comply with all relevant PAD and donor policies and procedures with respect to Child Protection, health and safety, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies

Job Requirements

Qualification: MA/BA Degree in sociology, Psychology, social anthropology, social work, social sciences, or other relevant fields 

Experience: Previous 3 years of experience working with vulnerable children and adolescents in an NGO environment, preferably CP & SGBV field

Additional Skills, Attitudes, and Attributes 

  • An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential

  • Understanding of basic program management, financial management, and an ability to work with numbers are advantages

  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • High level of interpersonal communication & negotiation skills

  • Strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines

  • Understanding of the issues surrounding various charitable activities and understanding major policies/issues of large bilateral/multilateral donors

  • Strong working knowledge of business practices

  • Leadership skills – demonstrated ability to build effective teams

  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills

  • Proven strategic planning skills

  • Inspirational and persuasive
