Operation Smile is an international Non for profit organization that offers free surgeries to people born with cleft conditions. We envision a world in which health and dignity are improved through safe surgery. Founded in 1982, Operation Smile has had its presence in Ethiopia since 2005 with full blown programs in Jimma University Medical Centre, St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College and  Ayder Comprehensive Specialized hospital . Operation Smile Ethiopia ( OSE) is currently expanding its program to Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Hawassa, Sidama Regional State .Operation Smile Ethiopia   is looking for an intern that can coordinate the works at  Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. This is a non-employment internship post based in  Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Hawassa, Sidama Regional State .

Key Roles of the Intern

• Together with OSE staff in Addis Ababa head  office and Hawassa hospital team, lead the renovation work of Cleft Centre to be established at Hawassa hospital including OR ,wards, recovery and medical supply storages spaces.

• Based in Hawassa hospital, will coordinate tasks related to identifying infrastructure, supply and equipment  gaps in Hawassa hospital for cleft and general plastic surgery service in the hospital

• By closely working with the hospital team, identify list of medical supplies to be procured by Operation Smile Ethiopia office for providing  cleft surgeries at  Hawassa hospital

• Work with OSE and hospital staff in preparing contents for local media to create awareness for cleft cases in the community and airing of the contents produced using local radio out lets.

• In collaboration with OSE team, prepare contents for IEC materials to be printed and distributed for the community and rural health facilities for creating awareness of Cleft cases  among the community 

• Register cleft cases coming to Hawassa  hospital and sequence them for surgery in collaboration with the hospital staff

• Report patient related data to OSE staff on monthly basis.

• Work with OSE and hospital staff to conduct outreach activities to mobilize community for cleft surgical services at Hawassa hospital

• Execute any other activities assigned by OSE 

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Behaviors

• BA in Medicine( Medical Doctor ) from recognized university with zero year of experience 

• Excellent communication skill both writing and speaking  in English, Amharic  and Sidamigna or other local languages.

• Basic knowledge and skill of computer including Microsoft offices such as use of words, excel, internet, teams.

• Motivated to work as intern  in hospital setting ,

• Skill of coordination and team work

• Easily coachable and willing to learn 

• Willing to work during working hours ;with flexibility of working out of  regular work hours 

Compensations

• This is a non-employment internship /volunteer position where OSE will pay stipend as compensation of daily costs .

• NB: The intern is responsible for bringing a functional laptop.
