Job Description

The Farmer Engagement & Farm Sourcing  Coordinators Lead  is responsible for overseeing the sourcing and procurement of fresh agricultural products directly from farmers. This role involves managing a team of field coordinators, engaging farmer networks, ensuring timely harvest data collection, driving cost-effective purchasing, and supporting the company’s farm product supply chain with clean, validated data and strong vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management & Supervision

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of Farm Sourcing Coordinators across different regions.

  • Monitor performance, provide weekly check-ins, and ensure accountability on outreach and purchasing targets.

  • Conduct field visits and support coordinators with challenges on the ground.

Farmer Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Oversee farmer onboarding, verification, and engagement through field teams.

  • Ensure accurate harvest data collection and consistent farmer communication.

  • Build strong relationships with high-performing farmer suppliers and ensure consistent supply.

Purchasing & Negotiation

  • Oversee purchasing activities from farm to warehouse, ensuring quality, quantity, and price alignment.

  • Monitor daily price trends and lead negotiations for better farm-gate prices while ensuring farmer satisfaction.

  • Ensure that all purchases follow internal pricing, cost-saving, and documentation protocols.

 Data Collection & Reporting

  • Verify and review daily sourcing and purchasing reports from field coordinators.

  • Support supply planning and forecasting teams with clean and reliable data.

Quality Control & Problem Solving

  • Monitor product quality issues (e.g., spoilage, poor harvest, handling problems) and take corrective action.

  • Escalate field-level sourcing or purchasing issues and work cross-functionally to resolve them.

Strategy Execution & Field Optimization

  • Implement sourcing and purchasing initiatives, pilot incentive programs, and support zone expansion.

  • Contribute to the development of procurement strategies for new crop types or regions.

  • Suggest improvements in sourcing systems and field team operations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in farm product sourcing, purchasing, or rural field operations.

  • Experience leading field teams or working with smallholder farmers.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with agricultural seasonality, local crop markets, and rural community engagement.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and digital reporting tools is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.

Preferred Attributes

  • One or more local languages spoken in farming areas.

  • Ability to manage pressure and handle multiple operational issues at once.

  • Passion for building scalable, farmer-friendly sourcing systems.

  • Experience working with cooperatives, unions, or agribusiness development projects is an advantage.
