The Brooke is a leading UK equine welfare charity that has been working in Ethiopia since 2006 with a country office in Addis Ababa. The Brooke aims to improve the welfare of working equines, together with the livelihoods of people dependent on these animals. Brooke Ethiopia (B-Eth) has entered a new Strategic phase and by the year 2020, the Brooke Ethiopia will sustainably improve the equine welfare of some of the neediest rural and urban equines in Ethiopia. In order to achieve this, the role of Procurement Officer is critical.

Job Title: Procurement Officer/ Maternity Cover for Six Months

Location: Addis Ababa, 

Reports to: People and Culture Manager 

Staff supervised: No

Purpose of the job: The Procurement Officer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services to meet the BE’s operational needs.

He/She will develop procurement strategies, maintain vendor relationships, and ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials. The post holder can

lead also facilitation of logistics for visitors working together with other BE’s team members. 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals.

  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and vendors.

  • Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms to secure the best value.

  • Manage the procurement process from requisition to payment.

  • Maintain up-to-date records of procurement activities and vendor information.

  • Monitor supplier performance and address issues proactively.

  • Ensure compliance with BE policies and relevant legal regulations.

  • Collaborate with program people to understand their procurement requirements.

  • Prepare reports on procurement status, cost analysis, and supplier performance metrics.

  • Continuously seek opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or related field.

  • Proven experience as a Procurement Officer, Purchasing Officer, or in a similar role minimum 5 years preferred.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with legal aspects of procurement and contract management.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and high ethical standards.
