Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position.
REPORT TO Coordinator, Communication/Media
DURATION Open Contract/Indefinite Period
SALARY RANGE Gross monthly salary of ETB 20,400.00 - ETB 23,683.00 plus ETB 8,640.00 Housing allowance and ETB 3,300.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history
Purpose of the Job:
Serves as the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) primary contact for media engagement with a strong focus on translation. The role involves translating media content, press releases, and human rights materials between Amharic and Afan Oromo and Amharic and English, while also managing media relations, preparing press materials, organizing interviews and events, and monitoring media coverage related to the Commission’s work.
Translate EHRC press releases, articles, reports, and human rights content from:
Amharic to Afan Oromo and vice versa
Amharic to English and vice versa, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
Support in the monitoring, translation, and summarization of local media coverage on human rights issues for internal use and public communication.
Draft and edit articles and press releases in both
Amharic and Afan Oromo
Amharic and English.
Maintain and update the branch office’s website and social media with translated content to ensure accessibility and inclusiveness.
Handle inquiries from journalists and other media contacts through telephone, email, and written correspondence, providing clear and accurate responses in appropriate languages.
Arrange and coordinate media-related events, interviews, and press conferences, including interpretation services when necessary.
Liaise with local and international media representatives to promote accurate reporting on human rights issues.
Monitor current affairs and EHRC-related media coverage, translating key content for internal reporting and public dissemination.
Prepare and translate media kits, case stories, and other informational materials for journalists.
Distribute press releases and promotional materials to media mailing lists in appropriate languages.
Maintain positive and professional relationships with media personnel and ensure they receive timely translated information.
Create and circulate bilingual or multilingual press reviews summarizing EHRC’s media presence and visibility.
Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
MA/BA Degree in Language Studies, Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, International Studies, Political Science and other related field.
4 years of relevant experience for BA, and 2 years of relevant experience for MA.
Computer literate
Knowledge of Amharic and local language of the region is required.
