Job Description

The Plant & Equipment Maintenance Director is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the operational reliability, safety, and optimal performance of all plant, heavy machinery, vehicles, and specialized construction equipment within OVID Construction. This role focuses on strategic maintenance planning, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, repair oversight, and continuous improvement in equipment performance.

By leading a highly skilled technical team, the Director ensures maximum equipment availability, minimal downtime, and extended asset lifespan, directly supporting the timely and cost-efficient execution of construction projects.

To plan, lead, and execute world-class maintenance strategies that optimize plant and equipment performance, enhance safety, reduce operational costs, and enable OVID Construction to deliver projects on schedule and to the highest quality standards.

Top Roles and Responsibilities

1. Strategic Maintenance Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy for all plant and equipment assets.

  • Lead the transition from reactive to preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

  • Align maintenance activities with project schedules, operational demands, and corporate strategic goals.

2. Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

  • Oversee routine service schedules, major overhauls, and technical inspections to ensure compliance with OEM recommendations and safety regulations.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers and Equipment Allocation teams to minimize equipment downtime.

  • Implement computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking tasks, costs, and performance.

3. Equipment Reliability & Performance Optimization

  • Establish KPIs for equipment uptime, mean time between failures (MTBF), and mean time to repair (MTTR).

  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring breakdowns and implement corrective measures.

  • Optimize spare parts inventory management to avoid delays in maintenance and repairs.

4. Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and environmental regulations.

  • Oversee operator training and certification to ensure safe handling of equipment.

  • Implement and monitor strict quality assurance protocols for all repairs and maintenance work.

5. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, controlling repair costs, spare parts purchases, and outsourced services.

  • Negotiate contracts with service providers for cost-effective maintenance solutions.

  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis for repair vs. replacement decisions.

6. Technology, Innovation & Process Improvement

  • Introduce modern diagnostic tools, IoT monitoring, and remote performance tracking systems.

  • Benchmark against industry best practices to improve maintenance efficiency and asset longevity.

  • Standardize maintenance procedures and documentation across all sites.

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Plant & Equipment Administration, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management to ensure equipment readiness.

  • Support tender preparation and project planning by providing accurate equipment performance data.

  • Liaise with suppliers and OEMs for technical updates, warranty claims, and technical support.

8. Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performance maintenance team including mechanical engineers, technicians, and maintenance planners.

  • Develop training programs to enhance team capabilities in modern maintenance techniques and safety practices.

  • Foster a culture of discipline, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

9. Executive Reporting & Advisory

  • Provide regular maintenance performance reports and recommendations to the CEO.

  • Advise on capital investment decisions for new equipment purchases or major upgrades.

  • Participate in executive meetings to ensure maintenance priorities align with business objectives.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (required).

  • Master’s degree in Engineering Management, Business Administration (MBA), or relevant discipline (preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 12+ years of progressive experience in plant and equipment maintenance leadership within construction, infrastructure, or mining sectors.

  • Proven track record in equipment reliability improvement, cost reduction, and technical operations management.

  • Experience in CMMS implementation and modern maintenance systems.
