Job Description

The Engineering Technical Advisor – Construction is a pivotal senior executive role, directly advising the CEO and contributing to the strategic direction and technical excellence of OVID Construction PLC. This position is responsible for safeguarding the integrity, quality, safety, and innovation of engineering practices across the company’s entire construction portfolio. The Advisor plays a critical role in evaluating, guiding, and enhancing all technical aspects of engineering—from design to execution—ensuring world-class standards are achieved on every project.

This role integrates technical thought leadership, risk management, and interdepartmental coordination to drive efficiency, performance, and sustainability. As a key strategic voice, the Advisor ensures that OVID’s engineering capabilities remain competitive, forward-looking, and fully aligned with business objectives and national infrastructure ambitions.

Top Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal technical advisor to the CEO on all engineering, design, and construction-related matters.

  • Lead the strategic technical oversight of high-impact construction projects to ensure optimal design, structural integrity, cost-efficiency, and schedule adherence.

  • Review and validate engineering methodologies, drawings, and execution strategies proposed by internal teams or external contractors.

  • Develop and enforce advanced technical standards and engineering protocols across all sites and departments.

  • Conduct in-depth risk assessments of structural designs, geotechnical conditions, and construction innovations.

  • Recommend and oversee the adoption of modern engineering solutions, sustainable building technologies, and resilient infrastructure designs.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex technical challenges and provide actionable guidance to site teams and leadership.

  • Actively participate in the evaluation and selection of materials, technologies, and construction systems for long-term performance and efficiency.

  • Liaise with Project Management Office, Procurement, Plant & Equipment, and Site Execution units to ensure technical coherence and execution-readiness.

  • Champion value engineering and lifecycle cost analysis to improve project ROI and operational sustainability.

  • Ensure company-wide compliance with Ethiopian engineering standards, international codes, safety regulations, and contractual obligations.

  • Collaborate with HR and technical departments to identify capability gaps and lead in-house technical training and mentoring programs.

  • Represent the company in technical negotiations, government liaisons, and professional engineering forums.

  • Monitor global engineering trends and position the company to lead in construction innovation, digital transformation, and green infrastructure.

  • Perform other related technical and strategic tasks as directed by the CEO.

  • Unmatched technical expertise in civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering

  • Executive-level influence and ability to lead technical discourse in boardrooms and project sites

  • Exceptional analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities

  • Advanced command of construction contracts, design reviews, and value engineering principles

  • Strong cross-functional coordination with Finance, Procurement, Legal, PMO, and Site Operations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for high-stakes reporting and stakeholder engagement

  • High integrity, strategic foresight, and a proactive approach to risk and compliance

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering (required)

    • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Project/Construction Management, or Engineering Leadership (preferred)

    • Chartered Engineer or professional registration is a distinct advantage

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 15 years of senior-level engineering experience in complex, high-value construction or infrastructure projects

    • At least 5 years in a strategic advisory, executive, or board-level engineering leadership position

    • Strong track record of influencing major project outcomes through technical rigor and strategic insight
