Job Description

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM), a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp., a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), is engaged in gold mining operations across multiple countries, including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM operates with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and holds three contiguous Exploration Licenses for its project in Ethiopia.

The project is strategically located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Asosa, within the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is actively involved in both mine development and exploration activities at the site. 

The Management of KGM is seeking to employ a dedicated, experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Emergency Response Team (ERT) Supervisor to actively lead and coordinate emergency response teams, develop and implement emergency plans, train staff, and ensure compliance with regulations, all while maintaining a high level of preparedness and responsiveness to incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

Without being exhaustive, the responsibilities include:

Planning and Preparation:

  • Develop and maintain risk based emergency response plans, procedures, and protocols. 

  • Identify potential hazards and risks and develop mitigation strategies. 

  • Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure preparedness. 

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. 

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise and train emergency response personnel. 

  • Assign tasks and responsibilities during emergencies. 

  • Motivate and support team members during stressful situations. 

  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback. 

Incident Response:

  • Respond to and manage emergency incidents, ensuring timely and effective action. 

  • Coordinate with other emergency services and agencies. 

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of personnel and the public. 

  • Document incident details and conduct post-incident reviews. 

Communication and Coordination:

  • Maintain clear and effective communication during emergencies. 

  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders. 

  • Represent the organization in emergency response activities.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain records and documentation related to emergency response activities. 

  • Stay informed about current best practices and emerging technologies in emergency response. 

  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • A tertiary degree in Emergency management or related field from a recognised institution

  • EMT or Paramedic qualifications and/or experience will be advantageous 

  • Incident Command System (ICS) training will be advantageous 

  • Relevant qualifications in disaster management

  • Minimum 3 years of experience supervising a team

  • Experience as an ERT Responder is also beneficial

  • Valid international drivers licence
