The Head of Maintenance & Engineering will lead the design, implementation, and upkeep of all mechanical, electrical, utility, and civil systems within the tannery to ensure optimal performance, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and minimal downtime. This role is responsible for strategic planning, preventive maintenance, cost control, and continuous improvement of tannery production facilities, machinery, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Develop and implement the maintenance and engineering strategy aligned with tannery production goals and sustainability requirements.

• Lead and supervise the maintenance and engineering team, fostering technical skills development and safety-first culture.

• Participate in tannery expansion, modernization, and capital project planning.

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

• Plan and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all tannery machinery (e.g., drums, fleshing machines, splitting machines, drying equipment, chemical dosing systems).

• Ensure timely corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and production interruptions.

• Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure critical spares availability.

Utilities & Infrastructure Management

• Oversee operation and maintenance of boilers, water treatment plants, effluent treatment plants (ETP), compressors, and HVAC systems.

• Ensure continuous supply of steam, water, power, and other utilities required for tannery processes.

• Maintain buildings, roofs, drainage, and general tannery facilities.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with occupational health & safety regulations, environmental standards, and tannery-specific waste management requirements.

• Collaborate with the EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) team to maintain safe work procedures and emergency preparedness.

Budgeting & Cost Control

• Prepare and manage annual maintenance and engineering budgets.

• Monitor energy consumption and implement cost-saving initiatives.

• Reduce breakdown frequency and maintenance costs through efficiency programs.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Introduce new technologies, automation, and energy-efficient systems to improve tannery productivity.

• Work closely with production and quality teams to troubleshoot process inefficiencies.

• Document maintenance activities, analyze trends, and provide technical reports to management.

Job Requirement

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Experience:

• 7–10 years’ experience in industrial maintenance & engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a tannery or leather manufacturing environment.

• Proven track record of leading maintenance teams in a high-demand production setting.

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of tannery machinery, utilities, and automation systems.

• Expertise in preventive maintenance systems, root cause analysis, and reliability engineering.

• Familiarity with ETP, chemical dosing systems, and environmental compliance in the leather industry.

Soft Skills:

• Strong leadership, communication, and team development abilities.

• Problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently
