Shega is seeking a dynamic People & Culture Manager to lead our Human Resources function and help drive our mission to elevate decision-making across Ethiopia and who understands the nuances of growing tech-enabled teams and is passionate about shaping the future of work in Ethiopia. You’ll lead across the entire people lifecycle—from talent acquisition and culture-building to compliance and learning—while ensuring our policies and practices evolve with Shega’s mission and tech ecosystem. You will oversee recruitment, onboarding, compliance, employee engagement, professional development, and compensation strategies. As a key leader reporting to the COO, you will shape Shega’s organizational culture, ensuring we continue to be an employer of choice in Ethiopia’s thriving business ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Talent Acquisition:
    Design and lead fair, transparent, and data-informed recruitment and hiring processes, tailored to Shega’s fast-paced, tech-savvy environment.

  • People Operations & Systems:
    Implement and optimize digital HR systems (HRIS/HRMS) to drive efficiency, scalability, and data-driven people decisions.

  • Onboarding & Retention:
    Deliver robust onboarding, career development, and succession planning strategies to improve retention and employee satisfaction.

  • Culture & Engagement:
    Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion while fostering a collaborative, mission-aligned workplace culture across hybrid and in-office teams.

  • Compliance & Policy Leadership:
    Maintain full legal compliance with Ethiopian labor law; draft, revise, and communicate internal policies and employee handbooks.

  • Performance & Learning:
    Drive performance review cycles, feedback systems, professional coaching, and team capacity-building initiatives.

  • Compensation Strategy:
    Oversee competitive compensation and benefits programs that reflect Shega’s tech-sector alignment and future-of-work values.

  • Employee Relations & Mediation:
    Serve as a trusted advisor on employee relations, conflict resolution, and team well-being with confidentiality and fairness.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR generalist experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.

  • Prior experience working in tech-driven companies, startups, or digital-first environments is a strong advantage.

  • Proven experience managing HRIS/HRMS platforms and using people analytics to inform decisions.

Technical & Core Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), and familiarity with collaborative platforms like Google Workspace, Slack, Trello, or Notion.

  • Deep understanding of Ethiopian labor laws and compliance standards.

  • Expertise in compensation design, benefits administration, and performance frameworks.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex team dynamics.

  • Passion for building inclusive, values-driven, and tech-enabled workplaces.
