Job Description for an Optometrist

For Menagesh Rehabilitation Center Eye Care Service Unit

Job Summary:-Under the general supervision of the center manager, the optometrist plans, organizes and implement al the activities of the eye care unit and treats common eye diseases , prescribes vision aids, works in the clinic with periodical facilitations of outreach campaign that offer routine eye tests and refers patients to a doctor for more serious treatment

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Plan and undertake the overall clinical activities and outreach missions of the eye health care project

2.  Perform thorough routine eye inspection

3. Identify patient visual alertness, field of vision and eye coordination

4. Diagnoses sight  problems, such as nearsightedness and color blindness

5. Recognizes and treats common eye conditions

6. Prescribes corrective lenses and medications

7. Maintains accurate medical files for all patients

8. Promotes eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care technique

9. Records all diagnosis and treatment plan including transfer and therapeutic prescriptions

10. Recommends eye – strengthening exercises and vision therapy

11. Identifies  serious optical diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and others

12. Refers patients to a doctor when necessary

13. Consults on the improvement of an eye clinic and optical workshop and its organization

14. Provides general consultation for better implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of eye health care activities

15. Provides periodical care such as vision testing and prescribing glass and contact lenses

16. Diagnoses and treats eye disease and injuries

17. Prepares monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual   activity report based on donor base and Cheshire Ethiopia templates

18. Performs   other related duties that can facilitate effectiveness and efficiency of the eye health care project

Salary

• Negotiable

Duty station

Employment

• Full time 

Medical allowance  per year

• 15,000 

Transportation 

• Service from head office to Menagesha and birr per month 500

Job Requirements

Job Requirement

• BSC in Optometry and professional license certificate

• Professional License certificate

• 3 years direct experience in optometry 

• Communication and good clinical skill
