Job Description

The EiE Social Worker will support the implementation of child protection activities at the Kebele or IDP site level under the guidance of the EiE Project Coordinator. This role involves coordinating with community structures, providing technical support, and ensuring adherence to international and national standards for WASH and EiE emergency response. The goal is to address the urgent needs of the most vulnerable IDPs and host communities in Ethiopia. This position is funded by ECHO and operates within humanitarian contexts. The EiE Social Worker will facilitate all education interventions, WASH, and Protection activities related to the EiE and WASH Project, aligning with the project’s goals, objectives, and implementation strategies consistent with PIN EiE approaches.

Reporting

This position reports to the People in Need EiE Project Coordinator based at Nekemte, working in consultation with the EiE Field team and collaborating with all relevant stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with People in Need (PIN), Woreda Education Office, Woreda Women and Children Affairs Office (WoWCA), schools, PTSA, and community-based child protection volunteers to implement child protection interventions as part of the broader humanitarian response plan.

• Ensure the application of the Minimum Standards for Education in Emergencies (EiE), Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), and Child Protection in Humanitarian Action for Gender-Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Settings at the Kebele/IDP site level.

• Provide ongoing technical support to Accelerated Education Programs (AEP), Accelerated School Readiness (ASR), and community-based child protection structures such as Child Rights Committees (CRCs), PTSA, community volunteers, caregivers, and parents.

• Promote meaningful participation of children in child protection services, WASH clubs campaigns, Out-of-School Children (OOSC) initiatives, AEP, ASR, and community decision-making processes.

• Assist in the development and implementation of all EiE-related educational interventions.

• Facilitate educational, recreational, and life-skills training for teachers, PTSA members, school administrators and Woreda education officials, IDPs, returnees, and other stakeholders.

• Support and follow up on school activities, including teaching and learning, community engagement, school leadership, and the overall school environment.

• Travel frequently to field sites or kebeles, providing supervision and support to AEP Facilitators, teachers, and partners.

• Organize the distribution of EiE kits and ensure the safe and timely delivery of supplies.

• Collect data using various techniques as needed, in collaboration with the PIN MEAL team.

• Submit weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly progress reports to the Field Program Officer.

• Represent PIN at Woreda humanitarian coordination cluster meetings.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Safeguarding Commitment

ACCOUNCOUNTABILITY AND SAFEGUARDING including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH)

• Carry out the duties in accordance with the PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.

• Participate in training and awareness raising (CoC and KP, Safeguarding…).

• Implement Safeguarding measures throughout the project cycle including a risk analysis related to SEAH and Child protection for each project and develop a mitigation plan accordingly.

• Ensure that his/her team members attend training and awareness sessions and carry out the duties in accordance with PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies. 

• Ensure that due diligence and/or capacity assessments of partners include an assessment of partners’ implementation of key safeguarding and risk policies/ procedure including the prevention of SEAH.  

• Create and maintain a fulfilling and protective environment. 

General obligations and responsibilities

The Employee is obligated not to purvey any information concerning any of PIN activities to outsiders (including former PIN employees, who may no more be informed about current process in PIN).

The Employee’s position within the institution requires contacts with outside; he or she therefore conveys a certain image of the PIN. Job Requirements

Education:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Community Development, or other related social science fields.

Experience:

• At least 2 years of relevant experience working in education, child protection, or community-based interventions, preferably in emergency or humanitarian settings.

• Experience working with children, schools, and communities affected by conflict or displacement is an asset.

Language Requirements:

• Amharic, English and Fluency in Oromifa is required

Skills and Competencies:

• Understanding of child protection principles, psychosocial support, and education in emergencies (EiE) standards.

• Strong community engagement and communication skills.

• Ability to work with school communities, PTAs, and local education offices.

• Basic skills in reporting, data collection, and record-keeping.

• Willingness to work in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic environments.

• Familiarity with the local context, culture, and community structures.

• Commitment to child safeguarding, gender sensitivity, and humanitarian principles.

• Previous experience with NGO or humanitarian programs is preferred.
