Brace Technician

Position: Brace Technician

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

HOPE WALKS INC. is a non-profit and non-governmental international organization committed to freeing children and families from the physical, emotional, and economic burden of clubfoot. It works closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and partners to ensure children born with clubfoot receive the treatment and support they need to lead healthy, active lives.

The Brace Technician produces high-quality Steenbeck foot abduction braces (SFAB) under clinical and organizational standards. By collaborating with program staff and adhering to safety, hygiene, and quality control protocols in the workshop, the brace technician contributes to effective clubfoot treatment and long-term life-changing impact on children born with clubfoot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce Foot Abduction Braces according to clinical specifications and organizational standards

  • Trace, cut, glue, stitch, and assemble leather and plywood components following precise size patterns based on shoe size.

  • Weld the metal bar and assemble SFAB components as per manual guidelines.

  • Operate power and manual tools such as router machines, electric drills, bench grinders, welding equipment, and hydraulic leather cutting machines.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on machines and hand tools

  • Maintain inventory of brace materials and tools, and ensure timely procurement

  • Collaborate with workshop staff & program staff to ensure brace readiness 

  • Document brace production, consumable materials, and tools 

  • Uphold safety, hygiene, and quality control standards in the brace workshop

  • Participate in training sessions and continuous improvement initiatives

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Diploma (Level IV TVET Certificate) in one or more of the following fields: Leatherwork, metalwork, woodwork, or General Mechanics 

  • 3+ years of experience in production or technical workshop settings

  • Familiarity with pediatric orthotic devices or clinical environments is an asset 

  • Experience in Clubfoot Brace Production (Steenbeek Foot Abduction Brace)  is an asset

Skills

  • Strong hands-on technical skills in material handling, cutting, stitching, grinding, welding, and assembly.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, durable products

  • Ability to follow technical drawings and clinical specifications

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Organizational skills for managing inventory and workshop operations

  • Problem-solving mindset and adaptability in a dynamic working environment
