Hematologist
Designation: Hematologist
Reports to: Medical Director

The Hematologist will specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders of the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. This includes benign conditions such as anemia and clotting disorders, as well as malignant conditions like leukemia and lymphoma.
Clinical Duties:
Evaluate patients with symptoms related to blood disorders, including abnormal blood counts, bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, and enlarged lymph nodes.
Diagnose a wide range of hematological conditions, both benign (e.g., various types of anemia, thalassemia, hemophilia) and malignant (e.g., leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma).
Perform and interpret bone marrow biopsies and other specialized hematological tests.
Develop individualized treatment plans, including medication management, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.
Manage complications related to blood disorders and their treatments.
Provide consultation to other medical specialties regarding hematological concerns.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records for hematological conditions.
Collaborate with oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists in multidisciplinary team meetings.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to blood product utilization and transfusion safety.
Educational Duties:
Educate patients and their families about blood disorders, treatment options, and potential side effects.
Stay updated with advancements in hematology, including new diagnostic techniques and therapeutic agents.
Minimum Requirements
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialization in Hematology (or Hematology-Oncology).
Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as a Hematologist.
Strong knowledge of hematological diseases, their diagnosis, and management.
Excellent diagnostic and patient management skills
