Light Reading Academy is Ethiopia’s first Science-of-Reading-based program dedicated to solving the nation’s literacy crisis. With 68% of Grade 2 students unable to read a single word and nearly 60% of Grade 3 students reading too slowly to understand what they read, we’re on a mission to equip children (ages 6–11) with foundational English reading skills through evidence-based, joyful learning.

The Role

You’ll design print-optimized educational materials (Short decodable books, worksheets, flashcards) for children ages 6–11, including:

• Phonics-based activities (aligned with Jolly Phonics/synthetic phonics).

• AI-enhanced content (using tools like ChatGPT/Gemini for ideation).

• Visually engaging layouts (icons, illustrations, age-appropriate typography).

Job Requirements

Required Skills

• Design Proficiency: Mastery of Canva (or other equivalent editing software); knows how to balance visuals/text for young readers.

• AI Collaboration: Uses ChatGPT/Grok to brainstorm activities or simplify language.

• Editorial Rigor: Spots grammatical errors and ensures age-appropriate language.

• Deadline-Driven: Delivers high-quality work within weekly turnarounds.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience designing for ESL/EFL contexts.

• Phonics knowledge: Understands sound-letter relationships (e.g., digraphs, blending).
