Dosimetrist

Designation: Dosimetrist

Reports to: Head of Oncology/Radiotherapy Department / Medical Physicist

Salary & Benefits: Negotiable and Attractive

The Dosimetrist will be responsible for designing and calculating radiation treatment plans for cancer patients under the supervision of a Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist. This role involves using specialized computer software to ensure accurate and safe delivery of prescribed radiation doses to tumors while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties:

    • Create optimal radiation treatment plans for external beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and other modalities using treatment planning systems.

    • Calculate radiation dosages, field sizes, and beam angles precisely, considering patient anatomy and tumor location.

    • Collaborate closely with Radiation Oncologists to understand clinical objectives and with Medical Physicists to ensure plan accuracy and deliverability.

    • Perform dosimetric calculations for complex treatment techniques (e.g., IMRT, VMAT, SBRT).

    • Ensure compliance with prescribed radiation doses and departmental protocols.

    • Assist in patient simulation and localization procedures.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of treatment plans and associated data.

    • Participate in quality assurance programs related to dosimetry and treatment planning.

    • Contribute to the development and improvement of dosimetry procedures and protocols.

  • Educational Duties:

    • Stay updated with advancements in dosimetry techniques, treatment planning software, and radiotherapy technologies.

    • May assist in training junior dosimetrists or radiation therapy students.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Medical Dosimetry, Radiation Therapy, or Medical Physics.

  • Valid professional license or certification as a Medical Dosimetrist where applicable by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.

  • Minimum of 0 years of experience 

  • Proficiency in using various treatment planning systems (TPS) and a strong understanding of radiation physics and anatomy.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities
